Subject: Pregnant without a health card
Hi...I am hoping someone can help me. I am 8.5 months pregnant and do not have a health card. I have applied for a work permit but at the time I completed my medical exam I was pregnant and couldn´t have my chest x-ray done. I am desperate to have a health card and not have to worry about extra bills.
I have been very hopeful until now. I have 2 weeks left and am getting very anxious. Is there any way that the bill can be delayed until I receive my health card or will the government give me my money back when I get my health card?
I am married to a Canadian and am in the country on application status.

I hope someone can help!

No one can help you when you don´t give any information! Like what Province you live in, how long you have been there. Your legal status.

The baby will be covered the second the baby is born.

Your partner and you should of researched this and known that you can not pass a medical due to the X-Ray issue. Now I can understand if your country medical system may not be the best but the birth of a child is very natural so relax and enjoy.

You will have many more bills in the future, Clothes, Dentist, Games, Braces, Computers, Cars, etc. etc. so get used to the joy of paying and paying for your little one.

Also:

1) No - they will not ´delay´ the bill until you have your health card.

2) No - the government will not give you your money back once you have your health card.

we had the same situation twice. what you have to do is,

arrange CAD $500 - $700 for gyne obs doctor for delivery.(he/she will take less if you don´t ask for receipt)

arrange CAD 500 to pay hospital in advance prior delivery and sign paper that you will pay rest in installments.

go home right after the delivery , don´t stay there more than 24 hours.

If you want free bee, check community doula services in your community.

anyway you must have atleast minimum $1000 for delivery .

Wow that sounds great! Unfortunately I am in Saskatchewan.

I have a doctor who will do the delivery for free for me, its the hospital costs that are freaking me out at around $4000 per night spent in the hospital. I pray that I only have to stay for the 24 hours and that labour is quick and everything goes well.
