Subject: Visa refused
  To Roy or Sharon,

I had been an international student in BC, and my study permit expired in July 2010. I didn´t apply for a new one, since my program finished in April 2010, but I couldn´t graduate soon after, due to the complication on my program. Since then, I have been battling with the University I attended, emailing and sending letters back and forth, until the Student Appeal Board has finally agreed in favor of my case.

In December 2010, I received a letter from the advisor in my program stating that I have graduated, and immediately after I sent the letter together with applications and supplemental documents for restoration of status and a post graduation work permit. Because of the delay in processing times, I didn´t receive any response until today, June 13, 2011. And in the letter they stated that both applications were refused because I obviously didn´t apply for the restoration within 90 days, and therefore my work permit was refused too. I was told to leave immediately.

My questions are, what is the definition of immediately? I´ve been looking for tickets to fly back to my home country, and the earliest one available is not until June 27th.
Is there any way I can appeal this decision? If there is, what is the way to go about it? And shall I hire an immigration lawyer?

Thanks very much for your advice.

No appeal, the decision is final. You were probably given a volunteer departure order.

If the officer gave you one, you have to leave within 30 days. After that it becomes a deportation order.

Just apply for an extension so that you can graduate with your course. Try to consult the embassy or the immigration office near you so that they can help you with your problem.
