| Subject: CAN I SPONSOR WHILE ON MATERNITY LEAVE? |

I HAVE BEEN WITH MY FIANCE FOR 7 YEARS NOW, LONG DISTANCE BECAUSE HE LIVES IN NICARAGUA. I RECENTLY WENT TO LIVE WITH HIM FOR 8 MONTHS AND WHILE THERE GOT PREGNANT. I CAME BACK TO CANADA TO HAVE OUR CHILD HERE AND HAVE BEEN RECEIVING MATERNITY LEAVE BUT NOT THROUGH MY EMPLOYER. DOES THAT QUALIFY AS SOCIAL AID ? CAN I SPONSOR HIM WHILE ON MATERNITY LEAVE? MY CHILD IS ONLY 2 MONTHS OLD? ITS SO URGENT THAT HE BE HERE WITH US ANY ANSWER WOULD BE HELPFUL THANK YOU!

explain ´MATERNITY LEAVE BUT NOT THROUGH MY EMPLOYER´. If it is social assistance then the answer to your question is no.

I am getting 70% of what iearned while working but through quebec maternity program(regime quebecois assurance parentale). Not directly form my employers. so i dotn know if it classifies as social assistance or employment assistance

In Ontario mat leave is part of EI, so it is not social assistance - it is based on money you paid while you were working. If that is true in Quebec as well then you are fine.
