Subject: Language Testing Question
In the language testing section of the CIC website, it says that candidates must take the IELTS "General Training" test and not the "Academic" test.

However, I took the IELTS today but just realized I took the Academic version.

Is there any way I could be rejected because I took the Academic version of IELTS instead of the General Training version?

Please advise.

Amin

By the way, I applied before June 26, 2010 and I have read that those applicants who sent their initial applications before June 26 may submit the Academic module results.

Hi Amin,

Where did you read this "I have read that those applicants who sent their initial applications before June 26 may submit the Academic module results." PLEASE STATE THE SOURCE.

I read only that Candidate MUST take General Module of IELTS test.

I guess, if you still have time to submit the application to your home country CHC office, go ahead and book General module and go for it.

If you dont have time, then send this result once you receive them and still book one General module to give exam and explain that you will submit General module result afterwards (provide specific timeline).

If the above mentioned idea is not possible then just wait and watch and pray while you watch.

Best luck,
Nisha

Hi Nisha,

Thank you very much for your answer.

Here´s the link I looked at last night: http://www.cic.gc.ca/EnGLIsh/resources/manuals/op/op06-eng.pdf

On page 5, Section 11.5 reads: "Updated note on IELTS that both Academic and General Training tests are
acceptable"

Hi Amin,

First of all thanks for sharing the link. I read it, and it says that between April 1, 2010 and July 26, 2010 if some one has applied then for that period Academic Test score for IELTS is acceptable.

But you have to prove that with the help of your courier or postal receipt of the FSW package which you sent to CIO and the file number issued and online tracking data available on CIC.

If your file timeline falls between these two dates your Academic Test score is acceptable and you can appeal it if your file is rejected based on this one only.

Best luck,
Nisha

language testing (in reply to: Language Testing Question)
Hi Nisha
My understanding is that if I submit my initial application to Sydney before June 26, 2010, I do not need to do the language test. I submitted my initial application to sydney in April 2010,received a response on June 16 2010 from fsw. I sent the documents to Accra Ghana in August 2010. Since then the status has been Received by visa office. Am I required to do the language test?I submitted my package with a proof of English language knowledge Thanks Ken

Ken, can you afford to be given 4-6 points less for language than you think you deserve? that is the risk you take by trying to avoid taking the IELTS exam. You have no recourse.

I would strongly urge you to do the exam.

Hi Ken,

I agree with Sharon, if it doesnt affect your score of 67 still you should do it just to prove your english language efficiency.

Best luck,
Nisha

Language testing question (in reply to: Language Testing Question)
Thank you Sharon & Nisha. I will go ahead and do the test. My concern now is that I have to wait till sometime in May to be able to do this. In Lagos Nigeria the test is fully booked up till May. Before the May test date, a decision may have been taken concerning my file. Do you advise I do anything while waiting for the test date? I sincerely appreciate your advise

Many thanks
Ken
