Subject: Canada immigration made a mistake!!!
So my wife is now sponsoring me to live with her in Canada. We are applying in Canada, and we applied over 10 months ago. We have patiently been waiting for an answer. With me being unable to work and draining our savings, it has not been easy, as my wife has been supporting us both for 10 months. But that was really ok, we knew what we were getting in to and we saved for it.

I checked the internet three weeks ago to see if they have processed our application, and they had. Problem is they came up with the most obscure address. (Yes they posted it to the wrong address), even though, we definitely filled in the correct one on our application). So I called them up and asked what we need to do. They said they won’t do anything until the documents are returned from the post office, or if I don’t receive anything for six weeks I should give them another call. So knowing that i wont receive anything as it is not my address, they won’t receive anything and I will have to call in 6 weeks. Then they say that it will take another 30 days to re-issue my work permit. So in other words I have to wait another 2 months because they are idiots and can’t capture data correctly. (I mean how hard is it to re-post my permit when they receive it?)

I am not willing to wait another 2 months before I can work as it is not my fault. I have done everything that they have asked me to. I have no idea who to complain to, or even whether it would be worth the effort knowing that Canada immigration is virtually impenetrable.
Is there anything I could do? Who do I complain to? Has anyone else been in this boat?

nobody to complain to - mistakes happen. You can risk working but it is a risk.

To be honest, your first bad decision was to apply inland. Had you done an outland application you would probably be finished by now.

There is nothing i can do. (in reply to: Canada immigration made a mistake!!!)
Thanks for the reply, but I am from South Africa, and for South Africans if you apply outside of Canada it takes 17 months. If we went that route I would have been apart from my wife for the first 17 months of our marriage. Anybody who is married would understand that that is not a very appealing option. Unless, as in some countries cases, it would take less than 1 year. As it does not, inland works out to be a better option considering that I can work after the first 9 months.

As such I don’t feel that the route we have taken has been a bad option; it would have worked out quicker had it not been for their mistake. If we had applied outland, they probably would have gotten the address wrong in any case, so I would have had to wait 17 months plus whatever time it takes them to sort out their silly mistakes.

Although I have now found out that there is absolutely nothing I can do, even though I did everything correctly, I am still dumfounded as to how they wrote one address on my documents that they are sending me, then when I called them they gave me another completely wrong address. I am also furious that it takes 9 months to do something, only to make such a mistake when sending it.

Thank you for the reply, but I don’t seem to understand why doing what we have done was our first mistake, my wife and I have not made any mistakes in this long drawn out process, we have done exactly as instructed from the start, I only feel that Canada Immigration should have a more efficient way of correcting their mistakes (I fully understand that people make mistakes). Even though it may seem to be a small one, the repercussions of that small mistake are monumental in my financial and personal life. I don’t expect to be treated any differently from anyone else, but if this is their way of fixing things, I feel that there should be some way of discussing better options.

Once again , thanks for the reply and i am sorry to have wasted your time.

For your information only (in reply to: Canada immigration made a mistake!!!)
(NO OFFENSE PLEASE)

One little mistake entered on the immigration file may stay all the way to the end. For instance, a wrong postal code (only one number wrong, K7K instead of K1K) would have been given a chance to be corrected only during the landing interview. The attempt on CIC website was no avail.)

This situation could have been avoided if a legal counsel had been retained because letters are mailed to the home address or/and to the mailing address, reducing the danger of letters being lost.

This is for your information only.

You can vent here on the internet but there is no one official for you to complain to. They may get the documents returned since that is not your address, many people return mail that is not theirs.

Canadian immigration is not virtually impenetrable, the immigration numbers would certainly disagree with this assertion. I know it can be a frustrating experience to wait but there is really no way to speed it up short of increased funding for more immigration workers. They have a lot of applications to process.
