Subject: Regarding Jobs in Canada
  Hello All

My name is varun and i am software engineer working in MNC right now in pune and has 4 yrs of experience in my field, i have an issue that my immigration file for canada has been opened for provincial skilled worker immigration and it will be cleared soon as it is under processing and we need to submit the fees to canadian high comission in delhi, now my question is i am in dilemma that whether to stick to the MNC in india as india is heaven for IT jobs or to migrate to canada by leaving MNC in india and start all my life from new point, i am aware that there are hassels in initial settling down and has to do odd job so i am pretty confused that is it will be worth to leave job of MNC here and go there to do labourous work as i know jobs in IT will be very tough to find,

Please help me by guiding

if your current standard of living is above average... stay where you are.

Hi Sharon my current standard is average as i am still in early days of my carrer and we have recently shifted over here, but still my job is very good and salary is also decent which will increase as time passes and can have good life ahead, but i am at cross roads of my life right now to decide whether to go for canada or not as what i am here i will have same position in canada as well and i have to start my life all over again, but again as i have secure job over here i can manage things here but not sure what will happen if i go to canada, my family members are also advicing me to move, so i am pretty confused right now

"Nothing Ventured Nothing Gained". Take the leap and atleast try. As they say " I will shine, I will conquer... ONLY if I try and endeavour.."

So u r young and can take the risk. So go ahead and do it, otherwise later on you will always feel " I wish I had tried".

Best of luck

I was at a dinner party on Saturday night where the host was working a reduced week in a software company. We are heavily dependent on US contracts and that market is unbelievably slow. At the same party was a senior software engineer who told me they are outsourcing a lot of their labour to India. The computer engineering skills have been removed from the current list of occupations being accepted by CIC.

You have applied under a PNP. Perhaps they know something I don´t. If you come and there is no work... can you go back?

Well going back is never an option once we are there because we will be investing a hell lot of money and conversation into candian dollar will take most part of our parents savings, so we cant think of coming back atleast till we overcome that expenses and when we come back also, indian software MNC´s like TCS and Infosys are very strict with any gaps in professional carrer, if you have a very long break in professional carrer they will even not conduct interview as well so doors closed to enter into software giant again, did you think that will describe the scenario to you..

if you are intent on remaining in your industry, I would not come unless you can secure a job.

You asked. The chances of you landing in a job with similar financial renumeration and social status to the one you have are small.

Hi Varun,

Sharon is right, if you really want to stick to your profession, dont come here on PR. As Sharon has mentioned you should have a clear picture that govt. has removed the category of IT engineers specially Software engineers from their list is a clear indication of very little scope of jobs in that field; as the race to get the job is hard they already have so many people working in that field from here and from so many different countries plus they are outsourcing their IT dept to India.

You will always have a chance from MNC where you are working to come to USA or Canada or anyother country where your MNC has customer sites on work permit or working visa or H1 (names are different but the purpose is same to work in that country). At that time you can decide what you want to do.

Though you are feeling that your life is average in India, I am sure that there are a lot of chances to get promotions and high pay. As in general the pay increase every year in Canada is 3% max while in India minimum pay scale increase ia 10-15%. Initial struggle is high and your chances to get the field job is very limited. Secondly there are trends in India to change the job after few years of your exposure if you dont get the promotion and you have options to get the jump for higher position and higher pay scale here if you are jumping from one company to another they (employer) think that you are not loyal to the company and the management people dont move from their position so its hard to get the promotion or higher position compared to India.

Secondly, you have mentioned that if you want to come here and then you have to use your parents fund too, it wouldnt be a wise step from my understanding. If you want to earn that much amount and then want to go back I think it will take up your 3 years in Canada and by the time you will be able to apply for your citizenship while still working for the low pay job. Ane kahevat chhe ne ke MUMBAI NI KAMANI MUMBAI MA SAMANI jevo ghat thashe.

I know, I am here in Canada and giving you all this advices might be disturbing you but I am trying to show you the clear picture of the job market here in this slow economy. Rest is up to you.

Best luck,
Nisha

look at the employment sites for job opportunities. See how many there are in your field of experience. Look at the qualifications and then remember how many IT folks are already in the country that you have to compete with for that job.

that is as much info ans anyone can give you

You keep saying you are in a state of confusion (this is not a fun state to inhabit) but I don´t see any confusion. If your professional improvement and rise is important, you just have to work more at what you are already doing; if your wish to reach Canada and have a smooth life in the foreign land, then you will HAVE TO lose your immediate professional ambitions, rest the issues of rising in career (your career will take serious hits if you show up here, most likely) and move ahead with plans. In any case, you still have time till they actually grant you the immigration visa. If you do not arrive in Canada, you can get your landing fees back (you would lose a small amount that you paid for processing the application). This also gives you more time to find your way out of confusion and be more prepared (mentally and money-wise) to show up here. Once you are here, the ball game is likely to change quite a bit and you may have to shelve the idea of returning to India to resume your career (you can do this if you take unpaid leave of absence from your employer, say 6-12 months).
