Subject: Sponsoring my in laws
  Hi Folks,

I have a quick question. I tried to find the answer online, but failed to get a clear direction.

I am married. I am a canadian citizen and live in canada. My wife has a PR and lives in canada.

We want to sponsor her parents, so my father in law and my mother in law.

She doesnt work, I work. I have very good income, so I qualify. She is a house wife and no income.

Can I sponsor them and what category do they fall under? Parents?

I assume my wife has to be on the application as well?

Any answer would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Cheers
H

They would fall under the "parent" category.

Your wife has to be the sponsor. You should be added as a co-signer to ensure the low income cut off is met.

Thank you for the quick reply. So I assume that its ok that she has no income and that I have enough income to support both, the father and the mother?

So no way for me to be the sponsor?

no. she is the sponsor, you are the cosignor to the government undertaking.

Also - keep in mind that you have to have enough income to cover yourself, your wife, her in-laws and any other dependents you may have (e.g. your parents, children).

When using the LICO (low income cut off) chart, make sure you´re looking at the right total. In your case that would be at least 4 people.

sponsoring my daughter in law living in Canada. (in reply to: Sponsoring my in laws)
Hi Sir,
I need to know if this is possible. Can my wife and I sponsor our daughter in law who is presently in Canada living on an extended visit visa. My son (her common law husband) has filed her papers...but if does not go through can we as parents (owning our own house and valid citizens, still working) sponsor her or be co sponsors for her. Pls. let me know through my e-mail and we can get in touch with you.
Thanks and regards.....Glen. 416 492 0721.
