Subject: Chemical Engineer job prospect in Canada
  Hello to all,
Nice to see people sharing their experience/knowledge in this forum to help out newcomer. In advance thank you very much for reading my post and trying to help with your reply.
I am from a French speaking country but fluent in English ,Chinese and basic level of Italian , have a master degree in Chemical engineering with about 8years work experience in the field of my education. I just got the Quebec Selection Certificate (CSQ) and now preparing to apply for the PR.
I would appreciate any advice/suggestion you could give regarding job prospect in Canada/Quebec. Where/which province/city should I focus my research? Based on your experience what should be my immediate concerns?
I understand that I should get my credentials assessed by the " Ordre des Chemistes de Quebec" among others engineering association .
I am certainly looking forward to learn from your experience and hope I will have the opportunity to pay it forward.

There are certainly many pharma companies in Quebec but your chances are likely better in Ontario or West (Sask and Alberta). I would say scan the employment news from quebec while you prepare to land there... if things don´t pan out, you can move out to other provinces. I know recently two chemists got hired by some small pharma companies near Montreal but these guys went there (from inside Canada) with inside connections.

Thanks.....RightMan. I would add you are right, my job alert in google profile shows always job posting from around Alberta. Seems that everywhere it is the same: " It is not what you know but who you know that get you hired".Network,Network and Network. Any suggestion on networking Canada wise?

by choosing Quebec selection you have made a commitment to settle and work in Quebec. You are obligated to do so regardless of what the job market is in other provinces.

Sharon.........this is my understanding of the CSQ, but people said that I could work anywhere after landing in Quebec. Anyway I received the CSQ last week and I just started the PR application procedures. Even though in the CSQ it is written " Traitement prioritaire" I believe there is a long way to go before landing. Thus I have enough time to understand better the situation.
Once again thank you for your time.

why did you choose Quebec selection?

If it is because they are accepting your skills, and your skills do not appear on the current national NOC list, that should be your first clue about the job market in the rest of the country. If you chose CSQ because you were short of education or experience points ... well, job hunting might be difficult regardless of where you are.

You have signed a covenant with the government of Quebec, regardless of what people ´say´.

under the new rules, (unless your NOC code is absent) you did not save yourself much time with CSQ.

Thanks Sharon for your time, I do appreciate it and I am 100% with you regarding my commitment with Quebec. I choose Quebec because of my & my family French language proficiency and of course believe that should be the fastest way everything being equal ( I would qualify for the FSW as well).
Job wise I am happy where I am at the moment. I am applying to give my kids more options for their future.
Could you please further elaborate your last comment:"under the new rules, (unless your NOC code is absent) you did not save yourself much time with CSQ"?

Kyza,

What Sharon meant was that the CSQ route used to be the fastest means of getting into Canada, immigration wise. However, that is no longer the case as most successful Federal applications now take less than 12 months from start to finish.

possibly, seeings as you misrepresented yourself to the Quebec government and there are no jobs to speak of in Alberta.
