Subject: Marriage certificate - India |

Hi,
I am based at Muscat at the present moment.
I married in 1993 in India, but do not have a marriage certificate so far. During my jobs at Muscat and Abu Dhabi, I used to fill a certificate at the Indian Embassy for my wife´s visa - this was acceptable at both places. I have copies of both these applications with me, with acceptance from the immigration departments.
I also have an affidavit, signed and stamped by a notary at Mumbai with a joint photograph but the place of marriage is not mentioned in it.
My marriage was solemnized in a Gurudwara but I have not taken the certificate from there either.
Do I require a marriage certificate from the Registrar of Marriages in India, for my emigration process to Canada? Or will the affidavit and the applications to the Oman /UAE immigrations suffice the purpose? I can get the certificate form the Gurudwara and translate it officially.
Kindly advise.

(in reply to: Marriage certificate - India) Hello Navneet,
You will need the marriage certificate from the registrar of marriages in India.
Best luck,

Marriage certificate (in reply to: Marriage certificate - India) Marriage certificate issued by the competent authority is needed. However,u don´t need any certificate from the Gurudawara to get your marriage registered. Two witnesses from each side i.e. you and your spouse and few photographs will be sufficient.

Marriage certificate - India (in reply to: Marriage certificate - India) Actually, I was in India in May 2010 but had not frozen the idea of trying for immigration to Canada.
I am trying to see if I can do without visiting India, if not then I will and get the certificate.
By the way, can I show my wife and myself as common law partners? (I know its a stupid question.)
Thanking you

(in reply to: Marriage certificate - India) Hi Navneet,
If you still have the family or friends in India ask them to contact the Notary Public they will arrange for your marriage certificate.
Best Luck,
Nisha
