Subject: Sponsoring Czech citizen abroad
  Hi!
I´m a Canadian citizen living and working in the UK with my partner who is Czech. My work visa expires November of this year which means I will have to head home to Canada. My partner and I have been looking at many options for how we can stay together, whether it be in the UK or elsewhere. After reviewing our options, we´ve decided that I would try giving sponsorship a shot. I love Canada and want it to be my home.

We have read the application package and scoured the CIC site. I understand that our application forms should be sent to Mississauga labeled as an outside Canada claim, but a Canadian friend in Spain insisted that applications in Western Europe (London, where we are) have to be sent to Paris. Does anyone know if this is correct?

Also, nationals of the Czech Republic must now apply for a Temporary Resident Visa in order to visit Canada, because of the influx of Czech gypsies claiming refugee status in ´09. I am worried because my partner is a Czech citizen, that our applications might be scrutinized further or delayed. Is this something to be concerned about?

Sorry, one more thing. We will submit our application in September, because by then our rental contract and utility bills will verify that we have lived together for a year. By November I plan to return and stay in Canada while my partner continues to live and work in London. During our sponsorship wait time, is it okay to be living long distance? Will that affect our status as common law partners if we are apart for, say, 8 months?

I hope these questions are not too trivial. Like, everyone else in this forum, you can´t help but feel anxious about sponsoring loved ones.

The central in-take processing office does paper-screening and

the local office issues a permanence resident visa.

A visa officer at the embassy or high commission will review a Czech national whether or not to grant a temporary resident visa.

So, does this mean that I would be sending my forms to Canada rather than to a European office?
