Subject: Landing in Canada - Sponsorship possible?
  Hi,

I´m planning to land in Canada next month and would like to know if I can get my relatives in Canada to provide a local Security deposit / letter of sponsorship in lieu of my carrying the requisite funds with me at the time of landing? I will be staying with my relatives & they will provide for all my expenses (stay etc.) while I´m there, so will this suffice instead of me carrying funds with me at the time of entry?

Thanks
Sumen

if you are arriving as a skilled worker, you are obligated to bring the required funds. You declared you have the resources when you applied - what happened to them?

Yes, I did declare funds as I *had* them a few years ago when I´d applied but a lot has happened to this economy since then... lost a job etc. so I don´t exactly have those kinda funds now, hence the problem. I do have a relative who is willing to state that he´ll be fully responsible for my stay & put up a ´security deposit´ or such. Anyways, I just want to enter to get the required paperwork done before my visa expires. I don´t intend on moving to Canada just yet, until I have my finances in order.
What happens if I land with less than the stipulated amount of funds?

Thanks again.

From the CIC site:

"You will not be allowed into Canada if you give false or incomplete information, or if you do not satisfy the officer that you meet the requirements for entry into Canada."

In short, you may be refused entry to Canada/refused landing if you don´t have sufficient proof of funds.
