Subject: Extending visa or going back home?! |

Hello.
I have two questions regarding staying in Canada. If someone would answer, I would really appreciate it.
1. If I marry a Canadian citizen within Canada (I would be on a tourist visa), and then the citizen files for permanent residency papers for me immediately, can I extend my 6 months visa more so I can stay in Canada with the person I married because the process of permanent residency takes over 6 months in most cases. It would be hard to be married and then have to live apart again, even for half a year.
2. If the 6 months were to pass and I was told to leave, how soon after I leave Canada can I apply again for a visitor´s visa?
(I´m a US citizen, btw).
Thanks.

(in reply to: Extending visa or going back home?!) 1. Yes but it makes no differenece if your in or out of status the issue is whether or not your in a genuine marriage!
If you overstay and you are told to leave they will give you an exclusion order for one year. highly unlikey you would get a CVV within the year or even after.

Thanks, but (in reply to: Extending visa or going back home?!) Well I am not married quite yet, but it may happen and we want to settle there because the other person lives there and it´s a better life for all of us there. No intention of marrying for visa or anything like that.
How is it not an issue if I can stay or not? Can you please elaborate? I mean, if I can prove to the Immigration office that the marriage is genuine, will I be able to extend the 6 month visa without a problem?
If I leave within 6 months and come back again becasue I am waiting for spousal sponsorship to be completed, how soon after those 6 months can I enter Canada?
I would not overstay-I am not illegal nor do I condone illegal activity.
