Go to the police (in reply to: passport)
Hi Ronabel,

I would go straight to the police and report this. This is illegal for your employer to do. Under international law, your passport is the property of the government that issued it and only official Canadian government representatives (like embassy officials or border services) can demand to see it.

Hi Ronabel,

You must be in HK, am I right? If you have already received a notice from CIC to get your Canadian Visa, the best thing for you to do is ask your employer to give you back your passport. Otherwise, call the police. If employer lay you off but gave you back your passport, just pack and go, get your visa and fly out from the Philippines if that is your home country. Either way, you need to get your passport or you can go to the Phil. embassy and ask them to help. Please forgive me if I assume the wrong nationality.
