Subject: 1st Canadian passport - From Embassy
  Hi,

Say I have become a Canadian citizen by attending the citizenship ceremony. I understand I get the citizenship certificate at the ceremony.

Next step is getting 1st Canadian passport. The questions are :
"Do I have to stay in Canada to apply & get passport? Or can I go abroad & apply (& receive) passport from overseas Canadian Embassy?

I know it takes 2-3 weeks to get a passport, but because of overseas work commitments, I´d prefer flying out right after the ceremony.

Thanks

Make arrangments, Sir or Madame.

You may have someone mail your passport forward to your oversea address.

Cordially,

A message from the Government of Kanata

Does Passport (Kanata) issue passports in the mail????

Such an important document and the applicant does not have to pick it up in person. Wow they trust Canada Post but not PR Card renewals are mailed by Canada Post. Pasports are far more important!

Look there is a terroist behind that tree just waiting for that mailman with his bag of Canadiian Passports. LOL

There is an express application process that is real fast if you go just a little outside of Toronto like the Passport Canada Office in Whitby, or any smaller centre.

WOW I have never heard that passports are mailed to applicants. I´m down at the IAD, GTEC and IRB at 74 Victoria Street all the time where there is a passport Canada office on the third floor.

I get so frustrated that so many are lined up to apply and pick their passports up everyday I´m there. The elevators are so crowded with these third floor people.

I guess I should believe someone who says they are Passport Canada or better believe someone who has a name Annonymous! I will not upset Amir he over reacts to comments.

I suggest you go to Passport Canada and get the correct information yourself!!!!! A little research by yourself as to the various Passport Canada processing times and procedures that might have changed is far more logical than believing something answered here as gospel.

Hi Roy,

I shall verify with Passport Canada.

Of course I am not harbouring the thought that it can be posted, but was curious to know if it can be applied for & received at a Canadian embassy (like passport renewals at an embassy).

I received my 1st passport not in my country, but from an embassy of my country. However, in that circumstance I was a child being removed from parent´s passport & getting his first passport. So that circumstance was different to this.
