not even an option. you have to return home and apply as a skilled worker using your sister for adaptability points.

If your sister lives in Alberta, there may be some provinvial nominee options depending on your skills.

Gwen,

Can your relatives help you get a job?

I have clients who managed to get an LMO and a work permit as a building block towards PR or got an AEO and submitted their application to the CIO while staying in Canada as tourists. But you have to act early on after your initial entry and hope that you can successfully extend the initial 6 months by another 6 months. It gives you almost a year to work with. If your authorized stay expires in 2 days then , like Sharon said, I really don´t see this happening for you. Not a chance you can bridge from visitor status to PR.

If your relatives don´t have the social network to help you out with a job offer, or your resume cannot really support any skilled job, you are out of luck.

Not true. Under your current situation, you have to apply from outside of Canada PERIOD. You may apply while you are in Canada but you have leave and re-enter.

DocD,

You are wrong. If the person can maintain their temporary legal status in Canada, and are not called for an interview, the entire PR application process can take place without them leaving Canada.

If you are an electrician who is in Canada for 12 months as a visitor and you filed your application with the CIO 2 days after landing in Canada you will get your approval email from the CIO 6-8 weeks later. If you already prepared your documents you can file the complete application to the visa office at the outset of the 120 days. Certain visa offices, I am not saying all of them and certainly I am not saying it will happen under all circumstances, will be able to finalize the case while you are legally in Canada as a visitor. This is not some theory, I have clients who were able to accomplish that.

Ok, show me the regulation that allows that under these circumstances in the IP manual and I will walk away.

DocD,

I am not sure exactly what kind of a proof you are looking for. Are you saying an individual cannot be in Canada on a legal temporary status while their application for PR is in process?

There is no restriction on that. Maybe you can go and show me where it says that someone cannot do it. Because none of my clients have been refused or denied process just because they were in Canada as visitor or workers.CIC knew exactly their place of residence and status in Canada. everything was declared on the IMM0008. There were no problems. Maybe Roy who is a fellow consultant can weigh in on this.
