Subject: Can I use Record of marriage for Spouse Sponsor? |
|

Hi everyone,
I´m Canadian and about to marry my Japanese girlfriend in Toronto. We want to start the immigration process immediately but apparently it takes 8-10 weeks to receive the Certificate of marriage which is needed for the spousal sponsorship. Does anybody know if they will accept the "Record of solemnization of marriage" issued by the marriage officiant and stamped by the city in lieu of certificate of marriage issued by the government?
Thanks,
i

(in reply to: Can I use Record of marriage for Spouse Sponsor?) Yes of course, common sense.
If your planning on being together and submitting in Canada it takes 5-6 months for them to open your spouses application.
You will have the certificate by then and can forward same to Alberta.
If submitting outside of Canada (better way) once you get her B # (file number) send the certificate.
But..........PROVE YOUR RELATIONSHIP!
