Subject: Sponsoring a spouse without a job
  Hi everyone,
I´m a permanent resident of Canada and got married to a Sri Lankan recently. I´ve gathered all the documents to sponsor my husbund over except for an original letter from an employer. Do I need to be employed inorder to submit my application? Will they hold my application without processing if I don´t include the letter?
Any direction in this matter will be most appreiciated.

Thanks a lot.

In family sponsorship, you don´t need certain income (no lncome limit) as long as you don´t collect social assistance (welafre). But it is also good if you find a job soon and you can update the file later. This is to convince CIC that you are capable of supporting your spouse

Income is not an issue yes, but....... if there is little or no evidence that you or your partner can not support yourself without relying on welfare the applicant will be refused.

So Get a Job as the song says.

Sri Lanka ... similar to many parts of the African continent - LONG. I am in social services and had on occasions, been asked by clients to help them email to Colombo to find out why their files are taking so long. For many, it took about 3-4 years, mostly because of 1. background clearance; 2. medical; 3. interview necessary; and 4. the vicious cycle of revalidating clearances and re-taking medical because while waiting for one, the other expired.
