Subject: Validity of PR status in case not moved to Canada
  Hi,
I had received my Canadian PR cards in 2006, did not move to Canada as the job scene was not that postive. Hence, delayed the move. We thought of moving again in early 2009 but then the recession was at peak and the job scene bleak. Hence, we did not go ahead with the move at the risk of quitting current job and not able to get a new one when we land in Canada.
The problem comes now ... as to retain the PR status, one has to be in Canada for at least 2 years from a 5 year period. My period end in Oct-Nov 09. As I do not want to risk the move now, how can I request the Canadian Immigration Authorities for an extension given the uncertain times!! Can anyone advise in this forum?
Thanks in advance
Regards,
Vineet

Unless your spouse is a Canadian Citizen then you are out of luck and will have to reapply

send a new application for PR to the same office which processed your app first time. Hope the market scene will improve and the recession will be over so that you can move.

Don´t forget tot ake IELTS again, issue new police certificates, notarize all your experiences and education credentials...Repeat the medical exams (if approved) and wait for years to finish the processing of the new application. You might also need to write a cover letter explaining why you didn´t move.

Hello man I like you; I bet you MUST be Indian! LOL Only Indians are crazy about collecting PR cards of as many countries as they can and thus get the bragging and cursing rights (cursing their own immediate surroundings) in front of their less fortunate compatriots. Let me tell you this: the job situation is VERY bleak right now; last month, tens of thousands of jobs lost. This trend will continue a minimum of 2 years... A general rule goes like this: AFTER the US pulls out of recession, AFTER the job creation in the US takes off seriously, AFTER the US industry roars again into full speed, only 6 months AFTER all these can one expect CANADA to pick up pace. So sit where you are and watch the US market. Meanwhile, follow the advice from the guy above: re-apply EVERYTHING.... and wait and watch.

Just stay where you are and forget about Canada. It´s really crazy to reapply again and tell the immigration officer that you did not move because of the recession!
