Subject: Two positive labor market opinion-what will happen
I would appreciate your kind input in my issue...

I am a doctor and had a positive LMO and a work permit issued on its basis to work in BC (07/2009).I am due to start in Jan 2010 and I am an Indian citizen in U.K.I have now got a second positive LMO to work in Ontario. It is better paying and like to pursue this.I dont want to let the people (who issued my 1st postive LMO) know that I have a second LMO and pursuing that. Will it happen automatically that the 1st employer be informed by HSRDC (that a new LMO has been issued to me?)
Also, if a new LMO is available (no work permit applied for yet) will the old work permit/LMO be invalidated automatically?
Many thanks

LMOs (in reply to: Two positive labor market opinion-what will happen)
Hi there,

I was told by HRDSC that:
- different employers can be requesting an LMO for you at the same time
- they do not inform other employers that a positive LMO already exists for someone
- It would be very unusual for an LMO to be invalidated (the person I spoke with had never heard of it happening).

LMOs are normally valid for a year, so you have to be sure you apply for a work permit long before the expiry date. Once you have the work permit, the LMO becomes somewhat irrelevant. It´s a stepping-stone in order for you to get permission to work in Canada.

The work permit generally just allows you to work for one employer until the date of expiry. Whether you choose to continue working for them or not is up to you- again, they won´t cancel it. You can even work for more than one employer if you have a work permit for each.

In my partner´s case, he had a couple of LMOs and permits at the same time. It takes so long to process everything, and it was worth the $150 per permit to keep his options open. Imagine if you waited for months to know if you could work with one employer, then it didn´t work out, then you had to wait months more to go through the whole process again... all while remaining unemployed.

Hope this helps!
