Subject: BAD CREDIT - Will it affect my immigration.
  Dear All,

It would be of great help if you could advise me on my case:-

I am currently working in UAE. I was in canada in the year 2004 on a student visa and stayed there for a year. During this period i had a few credit cards and an overdraft, which i could not repay, when i retured due to financial problems. I really regret for what i did. Now i am planning to apply for canadian immigration, with my wife as a principle applicant. Kindly advise if my bad credits would affect our case.

Thanks,
Joe.

If credits are not paid, they usually go for collecting agencies. Bad conseuences will result (not sure what exactly..). At least, you have now bad credit history...unless you want to fabricate your name...

Since you have been working in the UAE, you should have made good savings. Why didn´t you think to contact the credit company now to pay the credits?

You don´t have any excuse now but i believe the reason you didn´t pay was that you thought you have "escaped"....you thought that you are "smart" to take as much money as you can and then flee out of the country

What I do now is -at least- to check with my credit company to see how much money they own me and pay in full...Know also if a collecting agency has worked on your file..if this happened, it might appear on your records that you are a thief (with all respect)..

nothing will happen.
once u will be here, either ask your creditors for settelment or go file bankruptcy.

think carefully. filing bankrupcty means you pay huge deposits for electic and gas, telephone. no credit for at least 7 years - that means if you don´t have the cash in your pocket - forget it.

don´t say nothing will happen. Lots will happen and a cheap way out may have more consequences than you want.

Nothing will happen to your sponsorship application since the question being asked on your sponsorship application will, have you files for bankruptcy in the past? if so, have you been discharged (usually takes about 9 months to get discharge from the dale of declaring bankruptcy). In case you don´t have a discharge certificate, then YES you are not eligible to sponsor.

The best advise, call your creditors/collection agency and offer them a lump-sum lower payment with the condition to get the clerance letter from the creditor, which must be submitted to the credit bureaue as well.

Good luck!!!

Does immigration look into your credit history when processing your application?

please help me! (in reply to: BAD CREDIT - Will it affect my immigration.)
Ive been a student (student VISA) in canada for 2.5 years now.During my first year at university I was quite misguided as this was my first time away from home and got into bad company. This came back to bite me and my grades. I once shop lifted some things really small..a chocolate bar.. got caught and got a parking ticket when I realized my stupidity and pleaded. I changed schools and started doing well. At first i was broke and couldnt pay it back and waited to collect money and pay it back. $150 is a big amount for me. but as time flied, I forgot about the ticket... till the other day when I was planning to apply for a work permit to get a part-time job. Now just the thought of that some that has been collecting is haunting me day and night. I want to know if that ticket and the bad credit history due to it is going to get my application for a work permit rejected? If i get a permit and a partime job it will be a lot easier for me to pay it. And what if I borrow the money off a friend and pay it off before I apply? will it still kill my chances? I was 18 at the time of my offense and stupid. I so regret that incident and hate myself for being so juvenile. Now im 20 and a lot more mature but am stuck with this haunt of my past even though I moved to a new college and am doing whats right. please give me your input. ive searched every where and couldnt find much. I am an indian boy, studying engineering now. I have very little money and options but lots of heart and determination.

Unpaid Debts and sponsorship (in reply to: BAD CREDIT - Will it affect my immigration.)
Hello every one,
I am a Canadian citizen who left Canada in 2008 and unfortunately left some debts behind. Now I am planning to return to Canada and sponsor my wife for immigration to Canada. Considering the "STATUTE OF LIMITATION" act and the time elapsed, am I eligible to sponsor my wife for immigration?
