Subject: Husband's PR card stolen
My husband´s PR card was stolen from his wallet a while ago, about 1 ago. We got a police report and filed for a replacement. It has been awhile and now received notice that he has to go in on the 29th. It does not say why. We are worried to why he needs to go in. It´s scary to deal with immigration. Please advise. Why are they requiring him to go in. Why not just mail it.

Why would he be deported? What would be the reason?

Maybe immigration just want him to go in and provide more information on the loss or simply, to pick up his card.

Macoku, are you saying if a citizen lost his/her canadian passport he or she becomes stateless? this woman is asking a simple question that concerns her husband you are talking about deportation, what are his crimes? does misplaced of PR card constitutes or violate the canadian immigration laws? be fair to this woman.

Is the normal process to replace a PR card. Does one always have to go in to provide proof? he received the letter on July 15th and it requires him to apprear on Jul 29th. It says that he needs to provide documentary evidence that demonstrates your physical presense in Canada. Is this the normal process if one loses a PR card.

P.R.s don´t get deported or become stateless on losing or misplacing their PR Cards. Bear in mind, a PR Card is an ID document but not a mandatory document unless you want to travel outside of Canada if you are a permanent resident. I know a few elderly permanent residents who arrived before 2004 that are still holding the IMM1000 form - too cheap to get a PR Card unless necessary because there is an expiration date to it. In short, nothing to worry about.

Check the web site of CIC..they said if the PR is to be replaced, they don´t send it in the mail. They just send a ntoice to go and pick it up in person. The send the first PR card ONLY in mail. Replacement and renewal is in person. So it is a normal process.......never worry!
