What happens if my husband doesn´t get his Visa by the time his medical results become a year old?

He may have to re-do his medicals again.

But why? I know that his medicals have been approved. The man that done the interview told us that the medicals have been approved. He told us that we are awaiting the results of routine background checks. And recently he told us that the application is with an officer for a security decision; I thought that this meant that the officer is going to decide whether or not to issue the Visa. I thought that we were coming to an end with the applicaion? The application has been in process in London for about 7 months now. I need some hope here; I am so sad! :(

medicals are only valid for 12 months and within that 12 months you are required to land. CIC has the discretion to allow the current medical or if they are getting very stale, ask for new ones as lots can happen to a persons health in a year. Just the way it is.

You are obviously getting hung up in the last phase which is the security check - technically outside CIC´s control.

In land or out land application? has he lived in various countries? Sometimes things slow down in the summer time because of staff/embassy holidays. Frustrating, I know.

I done the application in Canada and sent it to CPC Mississauga. Then they sent it out to the processing center in London, where the status of the application is still "in process."

My husband, in total, has lived in 3 countries. His birth country, which he lived there for most of his life. Then he left and stayed in another country for only a few months, and now he´s been in Sweden for over two years now. Of course as he left his home country to go to Sweden he´s passed through many other countries, but he did not live in them.

I know that the man that done the interview is on vaction right now, but before he left he said that another officer will be looking after his cases while he is away. I just wish there was a way of knowing how far along they are in the application besides just saying "in process" -- for example, are they still doing background checks, or did they collect all the necessary information and are now looking over it, have they reached the point in which they are ready to make a decision. It just gets a bit frustrating when all you get is that the application is "in process" and no further detail into what is actually going on. I´m just looking for a glimour of hope that everything is going to finish this month because my husband done his medical exam in September 2008 and I don´t want his application to take longer than this or to have him repeat the medical exam causing the application to take even longer to finish. There were no errors in the application, everything was filled out correct and complete and we submitted all necessary information from the very beginning of the application process. And I know that my husband has a clean background.

I´m so sorry for going on, but this is the only place where I have found some comfort and some help/answers to some of my questions. I do thank all of you over here who take the time and effort into helping all of us people in the situations that we are in. Thank you. And hopefully sometime this month instead of being Sad Girl :( I will become Happy Girl :) . . . Hopefully!

But his medicals have not expired yet, so there´s still time, right? This is not fair -- we are at the end of the process and if we reach a year on the medicals we essentially have to repeat the entire process again? Is this true? This is not right and definately not fair when the application was sent in 100% complete from the beginning and everything was approved. Why is it taking so long to finalize the case? We´ve been waiting for 4 months now since my husband´s interview. IT´S NOT FAIR!

you are getting yourself confused. Fair is never part of the immigration discussion - remove it from your vocabulary.

You will not have to start the entire process over again.

BEST CASE SCENARIO - approval comes quickly and there is still several months remaining on the medical exam. They usually like to give people 90 days to land. CIC has the discretion to allow an expired medical to land if the dates are within a reasonable time frame.

WORST CASE SCENARIO - for some reason, the background checks are hung up and the clock is ticking. If the medicals expire before the Visa is issued, CIC has the right to request a new medical exam to re-confirm the health status of the applicant. This happens more often in an in-land application which can go on for 18 months or more.

So, why is it taking so long? - order Foss Notes. It will give you the best sense of what might be going on.

Or, just hang on a little longer and try not to loose hope - you are almost at the end.

My husbad done his medicals in September 2008, so he´s only got around a month and a half until they expire. :( If the medicals expire, will they need to re-do the background checks again?

I´m sorry if this may sound like a dumb question, but what exactly is an in-land application? Mine isn´t an in-land application, is it? I just want to be sure.

Also, what are Foss Notes?

Thank you.

further to shaira - wait until CIC instructs you one way or the other about the medicals.

what is Foss Notes - it is a shorthand document that CIC uses to track what is happening to your application. It will often give clues to issues that may be preventing an approval. It would not address security questions. I think your situation is simply timing.

make some tea, relax, and everything will be fine.
