Finally CIC has given instruction to their staff regarding DUAL Intent.

How can one apply for a visitor visa when their spouse has already sponsored them? R they really going to leave after their visit?

How can one be approved for a temporary work permit if they have already applied for permanent residency. R they really going to leave after their work permit expires?

How can a student apply for a student visa if they have already applied for permanent residency? R they really going to leave after their student permit expires?

FW1 Section 5.25

Dual intent
Section 22(2) of IRPA states: “An intention by a foreign national to become a permanent resident
does not preclude them from becoming a temporary resident if the officer is satisfied that they will
leave Canada by the end of the period authorized for their stay.” An applicant may have several
options related to the labour market for transferring from a temporary resident to a permanent
resident that would satisfy this dual intent provision. The intention to remain in Canada by way of
making a refugee claim or requesting permanent resident status on humanitarian and
compassionate grounds does not, on its own, satisfy the dual intent provision

Hey there.

Am wanting to relocate to Canada to be with my partner. We are planning on getting married next year. What would I need to do to go about getting temporary/permanent residency and eventually citizenship?

Can I easily get temporary residency?
How easy is it to switch from/get permanent residency?
How does one get citizenship after establishing residency?

Thanks

~Behr

remove the words fast and remove the words easy from you question.

now, go to cic.gc.ca and read the requirements for Temporary residency. to get permanent residency you file a totally different application from outside the country UNLESS you have come under a work permit - which is also secure outside the country.

Permanent residency takes about a year if you meet the criteria. Citizenship takes 3 years after that plus you have to pass the tests.
