Subject: Sponsoting Parents and Husband
  Hi,

I submitted a sponsorship application for my parents in Jamaica in March 2009. I have heard that it can take up to 2 1/2 years for this to go through, which is fine.

The problem is, I have fallen in love and want to marry an American citizen and we want to live in Canada.

We plan to marry in December 2009.

I was told I only make enough money to sponsor my parents but not my spouse, but I also hear that that is not true.

1. What is the case (i.e. financially) when you are sponsoring family members + a spouse?

2. I hear that its faster for him to get his PR card if he waits in the US than stay in Canada. How much faster though? We have already been apart two years. Its hard.

3. Could I take a leave of absence from my job for six months to be with him, while the application goes through? Would they still consider me living in Canada if I leave for six months?

I´m currently a permanent resident waiting for my citizenship, which should go through next year.

Sorry for all the questions. Its all very overwhelming

THANKS!

you do not need to prove income to sponsor a spouse but you need to be employed.

you must be living in Canada to sponsor you parents and your husband.

yes, an outland sponsorship is much quicker than inland and it allows for an appeal if necessary.

not sure if the 6 months would be acceptable. you may have to make more than one trip.

Kam: To sponsor your parents will take years. CPC Mississauga will have to assess your eligibility first and right now, CPC-M is only looking at applications received prior to December 8, 2006.
Once you meet eligibility, Kingston will take about 2 to 3 years (medical, security ...) so you are probably looking at 5 to 7 years before you get to reunite with your parents. Just make sure you meet financial requirement. Remember, LICO is not lock-in and increase every year and once you are married, your spouse will affect the income thresh hold - will be higher. Good luck.
