Subject: Partner accompanying student visa holder?
I will be coming to Canada from the United States with a student visa for approximately nine months. If my partner of five years would like to join me, does he need a temporary visa of any kind? I understand that United States citizens do not need temporary visas to visit Canada, but I´m not sure what is necessary based on the length of time of our stay. He will NOT be looking for work while in Canada. Thanks!

He doesn´t require a visa to enter Canada if he is a US citizen. BUT as a visitor he can stay a max. of 6 months in the country. After that he has to either leave Canada or apply for an extention of his visitor´s permit.

Cheers,

Bill
