  Hi Folks,

Sorry for a long question but i need help...

I graduated from USA in December 2008 with Masters degree in MIS and I have been working as Business Analyst since August 2008 till date.
Before that i worked as Software Engineer for 1.9 yrs in India.
Q1) Can someone please tell me if i am eligible under FSW category.
From the below paragraph i understand the CIC is willing to consider Software Engineers too.
Q2) Does the codes 0213 and 2173 have the same weight, meaning the application for 2173 would be considered with equal importance as 0213?

Computer and information systems managers plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the activities of organizations that analyze, design, develop, implement, operate and administer computer and telecommunications software, networks and information systems. They are employed throughout the public and private sectors. Click here for a list of Example Titles of this occupation.
Applicants with experience in the following occupations may also be considered under this NOC depending on the specifics of the main duties performed:

* Computer and information systems supervisors (in 217 Computer and Information Systems Professionals)
* Computer Engineers (Except Software Engineers and Designers) (2147)
* Computer Programmers and Interactive Media Developers (2174)
* Computer services company presidents (in 0013 Senior Managers - Financial, Communications and Other Business Services)
* Database Analysts and Data Administrators (2172)
* Information Systems Analysts and Consultants (2171)
* LAN managers (in 2281 Computer Network Technicians)
* Software Engineers and Designers (2173)

Sam,
The occupation codes you´re referring to were formerly valid for skilled worker immigration, but are no longer valid under the recently revised codes listing, which has been drastically reduced.

0213 Computer and Information Systems Managers is the only one valid that´s close to your skills. You´d need to have at least one year´s experience in IT management to satisfy this code.

Here´s a link to the recent codes:

Thanks Richard for the quick reply..
I was trying to be optimistic from the statement
"Applicants with experience in the following occupations may also be considered under this NOC depending on the specifics of the main duties performed: "

I looked at 0213 duties and i perform say 3/5...
Activities like recruiting and budgeting i haven´t done as a fresh S/W engg.

Do you think it makes sense to still apply under 0213 as i finished MASTERS in Information Systems.

Samm, if you look at all the related titles for code 0213, every one of them has manager, director, or computer department co-ordinator (the lone exception).

To be honest with you, if you haven´t had at least a year´s experience that would fit under one of those job descriptions, I´d say it would be difficult to fall under this NOC code.

Your business analyst and software engineer background is very good and usually very valuable, but is probably not qulaified work under code 0123, otherwise they would have listed the relateed codes seperately for eligibility. You can always still try.

You can qualify (in reply to: Hi Folks, Sorry for a long question but i ...)
Dear Richard,

Hi, My name is Mini, and I work for a reputable immigration consulting company in Vancouver and as a volunteer I help many people on immigration matters, which means I do not charge for advicing. I visit many forums depending on how much time I have and respond to people´s questions.

I do this to protect people from crooked consultants and other people who do not have any knowledge about the process but still misguide people.

I tell you what, you dont need to be worried, I uderstand your question and let me tell you something, I see that you have experinece as a Software Engineer for more than a year, now what company in India did you work for?

It totaly depends on what your duties at that job were to make you qualify rather than just the NOC code and title. In other words if the company you worked for in India is willing to give you an experience letter stating that you work in the capacity of Manager and your duties were:
1
2
3......
Now these duties have to be in sync with the acceptable duties under the NOc category.
If this is possible, your immigration is definitely possible, believe half the people writing here dont know how the thigs work in the department.

Mini,
I believe you want to address your advice to Sam, rather than me, as he asked the question. But thanks for the information.
