Subject: Sponsoring my boyfriend as conjugal partner
I want to sponsor my boyfriend as a conjugal partner, and he is already married. What do we need to do? What documents, etc. do we need? He is from Jordan but currently living in Germany. How particular is immigration about the length of time the relationship has been developing?

Thanks all for any information...

CIC will be looking for a divorce certificate before they even contemplate you sponsoring either your husband or your common law partner.

I have yet to ever see a conjugal sponsorship approved. If you were a gay couple and in fear of persecution - maybe.

Once there is a legitimate divorce decree, CIC will be looking for proof of an enduring relationship. If married - a wedding certificate. For common law you will need to prove your cohabitation for a year. Beyond that they start looking at joint bank accounts, leases, telephone records, photos, emails, anything and everything.

You will need to qualify as sponsor. If you are not a Canadian citizen, you are required to be living in Canada.

I am sorry to burst your bubble but your current plans are not even an option. the operational manuals are online on the CIC website. they are very clear what sort of criteria is involved for family class sponsorship. It would be worth your while to take a few hours to read them so you can plan your next steps.

(no... my answering this question does not mean I am back!)

should've clarified (in reply to: Sponsoring my boyfriend as conjugal partner)
Oops, should´ve clarified... AM Canadian citizen, residing in Canada. Have the entire sponsorship package, forms, etc. There is an option for conjugal partner and is almost same as common law but says for couples who cannot logistically live together, etc.

I was just hoping for any additional insight into this situation beyond what´s in the forms.

As far as I know, I should qualify as a sponsor.

But thanks for the info. anyway...

don´t waste the stamp. Until there is a legal divorce you have zero options to sponsor. once there is a divorce they will say - what prevents a marriage other than a plane ticket? What prevents common law other than a plane ticket and a job (for you)? Those are not considered hindrances.

I am serious when I say I have never seen a successful conjugal sponsorship for a straight couple.

Put the forms away and tell your guy to get on with the divorce if he is serious about having a relationship with you. While you are at it, make sure he is honest in his intentions and not just pushing for a easy entry into Canada.

I myself was going to this process. I have all the requirements that the immigration needed in order to sponsor my conjugal partner, (ex. joints credit cards account, our photos, my trip to country of origin, phone bills, emails, text messages showing that our relattionship was genuine and existing. a visa denial, my letters of invitation for him to come and visit me and my family here in Canada. Because of immigration barrier it prevent us from living together. hope this well help you.

married or 1 year common law is the only thing CIC will consider

I´m a Canadian PR holder, and have been in Canada for almost a year. I was living together with my boyfriend in Bangladesh for 9 months, then I came to Canada to get the PR and I returned to Bangladesh and came back to Canada after 3 months.

I have a joint bank account with my BF, photos, emails etc.

Can I sponsor him as common law? The only thing is, I did not put him down as a common law partner when I came into the Canada as at that time, we had not completed 12 months.

I spoke to one lawyer and he said that I cannot sponsor him and that my PR could also be revoked for not providing all the info when I entered the country, but I feel that he may be exaggerating.
