Subject: Visa Extension
  Hi all,

This is just to share my experience with CIC and I hope no one goes through it and also maybe someone here has an idea of what I should expect next.
I sponsored my wife and she was approved last month. My wife is in Gaza right now and her visa was expired on Jan 16. Of course she was not able to leave. I did contact the embassy to see what I need to do now as she will not be able to make it here before the 16 because of the situation in Gaza. I didn?t get an response from them. I went to my MP?s office and explained the situation. They contacted the embassy and they were even willing to help me get her out of there but my wife didn?t want to leave in this situation (don?t ask me why!!). then last week I got a call from MP?s office and was told that she might need to re-do her medical before they can issue a new visa to her. Are you kidding me, do you think the doctor (only one) will be waiting to take appointments to do medical exams for Canada immigration once this is over! It will take sometime before he will open he clinic for this. I let it go, there is nothing to argue about at that time as all I was praying for was for her to stay alive and safe.
Then today, after the ceasefire, got another call and was told that the embassy contacted the MP?s office and told them they will contact London?s office to see if they can extend her medical validity and to ask me to send the passport back to them to process the extension once the approval is back from London. This was nice to hear. Don?t know my chances for them to extend the medical?!! I don?t want her to re-do the medical simply because it will take months for her to take the exam and them to receive it and I want to get her out of there as soon as possible...After all I?m happy she is safe and glad to hear this response from the embassy.

Good luck to everyone.

My heart with you (I am from Gazsa too but temporarliy residing in the States and will land in Canada shortly).

Extension of the immigrant visa is impossible. However, the situation in Gaza is exceptional and I hope it will convince the Embassy to exempt her from the rules.

Re-doing the medicals will be lengthy as sending the medicals from Gaza using DHL might not be possible now (I doubt that DHL is operating now but hope will do so very soon). Furthermore, it will take the immigration health center not less than 2-3 months to approve the new results and send them to the Embassy at London.

My concerns are:

- How will she send her passport to London? Contact with DHL to make sure they are still operating so that she can send her passport to London to re-stamp the visa.

- How will she go out of Gaza? Rafah port is still closed (the situation hasn´t changed despite all the disasters occurred). I don´t know if the Egyptians will let her out. Stay in touch with the Embassy so that they can coordinate with the Israelis to let her out throught Eirez, as an alternative.

BEst wishes to your wife, from my deepest heart.

I forgot to say that if they insist on re-doing the medicals, I would prefer to re-do them....regardless of the hardship, as long as they agreed on the visa extension.........this is much better than re-applying again.

Good luck
