Subject: Sharon & Roy,, CAN my husband Co-sign???
I am a Canadian citizen but living in the US with my American husband. I am going to sponsor him to immigrate to Canada. He has supported me financially for the past two years and I am pregnant & unable to work at this time. Can he co-sign the application documents if he is also the applicant?? An immigration lawyer along the way told me that he COULD co-sign, as we are living abroad and already married and established. Is this true?

Thank you!

Please, any advice is very much appreciated.

Take care,

Samantha

COME ON HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

INCOME WHEN SPONSORING A SPOUSE OF A CANADIAN IS NOT AN ISSUE.

WELCOME HOME.

But seriously, if I make no money at all, how will the immigration officials approve me to sponsor him? I´m really quite worried about this. Should we prove that we have saved up lots of $$ ? Will that help?

Samantha, if you are sponsoring your husband, he cannot co-sign the applicatin to sponsor!!! He cannot sponsor himself. You are sponsor and he is an applicant ( for permanent residence). It means you will sign an application to sponsor, he will sign an application for PR. Roy is absolutely right. You do need to have any income to sponsor him. You cannot receive social assistance (welfare) though.
