Subject: RRSP New Settler and no prior filing w CRA
  Hi

I recently moved to Canada (October 08) and have been working for a couple of months now. I am a PR card holder and my immigration is complete.

I am reading up on tax issues in a book and because I came over with a moderately sized amount of money, I have a desire to invest whatever I legally can into an RRSP.

The literature I have states that I am bound to investing only 18% of my previous years earnings.

Am I to assume that since I do not presently have any filings with the CRA that I am not allowed to contribute into an RRSP?

Cheers

J
