Hi
I´m Canadian sponsoring my wife in Lebanon, a couple of days ago they called her from the Canadian Embassy in Damascus requesting her passport to be sent based on instructions in an email describing how the passport will be sent... But she did not receive this email... The lady on the phone told her she can send it in DHL etc...
Now we are trying to reach the Embassy in Damascus to see if we can have the email sent to us again but they are difficult to reach...We need to see if there are any special instructions
Damascus is a 2 hours drive from Beirut so I am wondering is it worth it to take the passport by hand to the Embassy, will it be stamped the same day or she will have to leave it there? Any other documents she must take with her?

There is usually an option for stamping the visa in person. Usually uou go on certain days and drop off the passport and then you come back and pick up the passport, same day. I highly recommend you do so as sending the passport in mail will subject you for waiting and concerns about passport loss. If it is easy for you to reach Damascus, do it yourself. Go there and stay in a hotel or with friends and finish the things.
This option was available for the Canadian Consulate in the USA and it was mentioned in the letter. Make sure that the Embassy in Damascus has this option. Ask about what days you can come to drop the passport and the exact period of time you can come on these days for drop off and pick up.
If calling the Embassy doesn´t work, send them an email and explain to them that you have NOT received the email (by the way, check the spam of your email..may be it went there).

While sending the email, send also a fax with the same request just in case that the email is not handled properly. In the email/fax, say:

We were informed over the phone that our file is now complete and the passport is requested for stamping. No email with the instructions was received. We highly appreciate if you can re-send the instructions.
We also wonder if the option of stamping the passport in person is available at your office. If yes, please provide me with these specific instructions as well.

The last resort, is to go in person but this might not help if the embassy doesn´t have the option of dropping the passport in person (this might be possible for secuirty reasons in Syria).

Just to remind that you have 60 days to send the passport (as if the consulate here in usa, not sure about syria) but you hae to act swiftly , any way.

I sent a fax followed by an email with the similar information you provided.
I will also call them tonight (time difference) to see if she can come in person and what days

My common law boyfriend had to send in his passport. He did not recieve an email, but instead a letter. And it stated he had 30 days to send in the letter. I suggest that in the next few days you dont hear anything that you take the 2 hour drive, better to be safe than sorry! good luck.

Yes I guess so but your common law boyfriend had the letter from Damascus office? I find it riddiculus that they send an email only, many people do not have access to internet and emails might get into spam etc...
