Subject: Any help? been waiting 4 years!
  Hi,

I´m an U.S. citizen married to a Canadian citizen. My wife and I have been married 3 years now, She has lived in the U.S. for the past 4 years with me and we now have 2 young children together.

My wife happens to be native which worked out great for getting her into my country, she is able to work, holds a SS card, I´m pretty sure she has dual citizenship, they even let her vote!
The problem is we don´t want to be in the states, we never really did, but life just happened upon us. Now we are more than ready to make the move to Canada.

Everything we have read online about her sponsoring me says she needs to be able to support me financially for 10 years... My wife stays at home and takes care of the kids, Her plan is to go to school for nursing, which is free in Canada for her. As a nurse she would make plenty of money to sponsor me, which would be great! expect for the school part(4 years).

This is a huge burden on our lives, I have hardly any family and she has quite a lot living in Canada. This is weighing heavy on our relationship.

please if anyone can give me more advice than the governments website does I would appreciate it.

Do we really have to be separated for 4 years of school in order for us to be together?

Can I live in Canada and work in the U.S. legally?

Thanks for any help that is provided.

where did you read this - it´s rubbish.

-your wife applies to sponsor you while you are in the US.
-it will take less than 1 year to get your sponsored... just make sure you do it correctly the first time. Do some serious research about what CIC is looking for
- she does not have to show an income to sponsor
-once approved, you both cross the border together... you start work immediately.
- all that she must do as part of the sponsorship is agree that she will make sure you do not claim welfare etc. for 3 years. If you do, the government will ask her to pay it back.

now... don´t you feel better?

I will have to stress on what Sharon said "Do some serious research about what CIC is looking for".

From your post its clear that you havent done any serious research to come up with the 10 years financial responsibility. Your first port of call should have been cic.gc.ca, and it seems that you didnt do that.

That is the old act now it is three years. Income is not an issue when sponsoring a spouse or a dependent child.

Is this a game Justin?

it is just a little surprising that you could have your facts so wrong when the information is readily available and the issue is so important to you.

people come on this forum and play games alot with their specific situations. Sorry if we have not been as empathetic as you would have liked.

now... www.cic.gc.ca you are wanting to look at family class sponsorship - outland. everything you need to get started is there. make sure you are looking at information more current than 2005.

Back in 2005 was when we originally looked into moving. Im almost positive that the financial evaluation said she needed proof of income, job stability etc and needed to provide for me for ´x´ amount of years.. so thats kinda what we were going on.. I do appreciate all the help because it is important. Also knowing that it is so much easier than we originally anticipated is so exciting! Do you know how it works for dependent children born to Canadian mothers in the US? She is first nations and actually has them registered with Indian and Northern affairs canada as well.. they dont need to be sponsored do they? Dont we just need to contact the canadian embassy that they will be living there? Will their names have to go on my application? Thanks again..
