Subject: Points eligibility- PLEASE advise!
  Hi

I am planning to aplly for FSW in early 2009. Here is my brief profile:

Age: 27
Education: BBA-(IT) total 15 years edu from Pakistan
Language: High English Proficiency IELTS 7.5 Academic (French ability none but learning basic phrases & planning to take training)
Marital status: Single
Work exp: 4 years
No relatives in Canada, no edu/exp in Canada.

I know there is an online test availbe on CIC website for points eligibility but am not sure. Can someone have a quick glance at above profile and PLEASE give an opinion if i am able to obtain the required 67 points.

Thanks

What are you not sure of when you took the CIC self assessment?

Is you experience in the required NOC skills? Is your education at least of 4 years and at accredited university?

If so, you may have 67 points. But you know more about your situation than I, so this is based only on the information you provided.

Hi Ray

Thanks for reply. I just took the self assessment test on CIC website and got following score.

EDUCATION 20
LANGUAGE 16
WORK EXP 21
AGE 10
TOTAL 67

I just managed 67 points on above factors, so points thing is much clear. My education IS from accredited University and undergraduate degree in Business adm with major in I.T(3 years degree) which make total 15 years of formal education.
My only question now is regarding NOC, I am currently doing search on NOC on HSDC website. I worked for retail business in South Africa from 2004-2006 in accounts and administration.
From 2007 January to date I am working for a US based IT reseller in its back office in Pakistan. My title is "Vendor Partner Specialist" job description is primarily to work with hardware/software vendors/manufacturers and do online marketing partnership management etc. Can u please help me determine NOC category for this profession? Thanks

Regards

IELTS 7.5 Academic
- Should be general not academic.
- Not the overall band score but the score of each section..should be 7 or above in each section to get the highest points...i.e. reading:7, listening: 7..etc.

Although your overall is 7.5, this doesn´t give you a score of 16 unless you have scored 7 in every section.

Because you are just at the cut-off, your language scoring should be perfect.

Thanks for input, yes i understand your point. I plan to give the General module, I had scored above 7 in three sections and a 6.5 in speaking in the academic. I need above 7 each section in academic.

Therefore, be very careful..otherwise your app might get rejected. You are on the verge ..so do every thing perfect.

IELTS general is an easy exam but tricky..you may not get the required score if you don´t know how to approach the exam...Failure to get 7 in each section means failure in the entire exam especially for people like who want to score above 7.

I took IELTS general and scored 8 in writing, 7.5 in reading, 8 in speaking but 6.5 in listening !!!!!!!!!!!!!! (was a shock) and therefore didn´t score the maximal points in english language proficiency (French is NIL) but my overall score was a little bit higher than the cut-off because of other factors I had.

I am afraid that you will re-take IELTS several times without being able to score 7 in all the sections. If you have this concern, you SHOULD work on other factors as well in parallel to IELTS. Thinking about French language is not a bad idea, if you have time and strength to do it , (along with IELTS preparation) as the French language may help you on the long run when you settle in Canada. I am not trying to disappoint you but to enlighten you and it´s all up to your decisions.

Before you start, make sure that your job is listed amongst the "list of demand"

Wish you the best.

NOC would depend on your work responsibilities. I cant help you with that. Look up NOC and find out whats the closets match.
