Roy, how is your head this morning?

Hopefully, the election will stop the threats and stalemates and the government can get on with looking after the country´s interests.

Conservatives have a enhanced minority which is likely the best we are going to get any time soon as long as we have 5 different parties looking for representation. I suspect Mr. Dion´s days are numbered as party leader - he did not do very well last night.

This would suggest that the immgration changes that were passed earlier this year will move forward as planned.

the best part about last night... we did it without shots being fired, voter fraud, and general civility prevailing. not a bad night for democracy.

Well most here can see that Canada has opposing views from one side of the country to the other.

Canadian politics is far more interesting then the stuff down below the 49th parallel!

Sharon views the Canadian election one way as a success. I on the other hand view it as a failure of the Conservatives and their Leader Stephen Harper.

I agree that Dion has the Wolves at his door and even the worst former Minister of Immigration (D. Codere) has released the Wolves and a Leadership race should take place by spring again.

Harper wanted legislation fixing when an election could be held.

Harper kept saying shut up and support the government or call an election.

The Liberals propped up the Conservative government so many times they became laughable. Ontario allowed Harper to increase his seat count but by no means did the Citizens of this country approve of his behavior.

What is amazing is the cost of the election 300 million and the lowest turnout ever 59% means that too many did not even care to vote.

I don´t think we will ever see a majority government in this country again as long as we have the Bloc or we ignore the idea of proportional representation.

if nothing else, the parliament will now be forced to work together for another 2-3 years without threating elections every other day. it will take the liberals that long to get their act together and recover from this fiasco.

Would have liked to see Elizabeth May win her seat.

I did a little math on the proportional representation

this is how the night would have ended
Conservatives - 115
Liberals -80
NDP - 55
Bloc - 30
Green 11
Independents 2

... now that would have been interesting!!!!

It is interesting to see you two talking to each other again and again about this and that this and that!.. This is really funny...

Instead of having this dialogue in an immigration web page why don´t you guys just e mail each other ? I do not think those Chinese or Indian guys who apply for immigration are that much interested in the election like many Canadians living in Canada!!!! Lets assume they are, this is the last web page to come and learn politics in Canada- they can read all the information from experts just by reading some newspapers!!!!

Have noone to talk to ? so what is next?

there is at least 5 of us here that enjoy this conversation.

We do it so we don´t light our hair on fire after answering the same question for the 4,250th time with the same answer for the 4,250th time.

don´t read it if it troubles you.

I am waiting to see how many Consultants are left after the November 1st deadline to sign up again with their Continuing Professional Development Points.

It appears there may be a huge drop in authorized representatives so few will be left to answer question 4251.

Get a life now I will have to turn in the only other debate/campaign that never seems to end, get a life John.

As one of the 5 people on this board that Sharon mentioned who are interested in the political banter here, I am perplexed by comments such as the one by John who continue to insist that immigrants don´t care about Canadian politics.

Tell me, please, why it is that you make such an enormous decision as immigration if you care so little about the country you are asking to take you in?

Politics should be Issue Number 1 for every prospective immigrant. It affects everything from health care, to job availability, to ESL services, to school performance for your children, to the services provided by your new community. Politics determines whether or not you have the right to immigrate in the first place, and it is politics which will eventually make you place that Canadian flag on your suitcase with pride.

Politics shape our nations, they shape the cultures of our nations and they shape who we are and who we become after we immigrate.

To ask a country to take you in, to ask to be part of such a great nation and then not care about the processes by which is got to be and continues to be so great is pathetic. Perhaps Canada ought to require a certain amount of cultural understanding before granting immigration rights. If nothing else, it might shed some light for people like John on the significance--and responsibility--of a county´s citizens in a democratic society.
