Subject: Bringing savings to Canada
  Hi All,

Wondering how immigrants and new residents bring their overseas money into Canada? Really, what means are used to do currency conversion from one´s home country denomination?

Bringing bank checks, inter-bank transfer, wire transfer? But commissions and exchange rates at Canadian banks are not great when doing it this way.

There´s internet foreign exchange available at much more favorable rates with minimal or no commissions, i.e., Customs House, Forex. Anybody used these? Any other approaches?

We did an interbank transfer. The exchange rate wasn´t great, but the convenience and relative speediness made up for it.
