Subject: Criminal Rehab - CIC asking further documents
I am in the US - have a single count felony record that dates back to 1999, after the elapse of 5 yrs of the completion of probation sentence, I applited for Canadian criminial rehab earlier this year. Now they´ve come back with following updates:

- my case would go to minister level - hence additional fee of $800, which I have no problem paying.

- CIC is asking for 3 letters of references from people of good standing in the community who know about my offences. Now this is the most difficult part. Here´s my situaion - I am professional with a good standing in my community, been involved in some voluntary social work, people respect me and all that but nobody and I mean nobody knows about this one criminal background. I am not proud of my past mistake and just to think to reveal it to someone and ask him to provide me a reference letter makes me jump into a river rather than going thr this humiliation. Please, please help me! Is there any other way around? Can I instead provide a Forensic Psychiatrist analysis by a certified medical doctor? Can I plead with CIC that this is almost impossible for me to do and instead offer them to appear for an in person interview at a Canadian consulate here in the US? Please advise. Also, their raising the bar by sending this case to Minister, does it mean my chances of getting the rehab clearance are even less now?? I am really worried & anxious now. Please help.
