Subject: PR Renewal
  Hi there!

I (and my wife) am PR of canada and we lived there almost 2 years (23 months). Now we are in USA and would like to renew the PR. The expiry date for the existing PR is in May 2009. I believe I would need to stay in Canada for another one month or so to be eligible for the PR renewal. My question here that does this 2 year stay has to be a continuous stay or it can be just 2 years in 5 years whenever the stay is? also that during renewal process do we have to stay in Canada and how long usually the renewal process takes (if we must be in Canada during the renewal process how long we will have to be in Canada). We are actually planing to move back to Canada after couple of years but not now that´s why I needed all the info above.

Thank you in advance!

2 years doesn´t have to be continous, can be any combination. Just the sume must be 2 years.

Ideally you are supposed to in Canada. Though you can apply for renewal and go abroad, just have to make sure that you return before the PR card expires. You have to pick the cards in person, NO MAIL service.

You may find the most recent processing time in CIC official website. Approximately it should take about 2.5 months.
