Subject: landing by road
Hi, I am landing by road from Buffalo to Toronto border. My flight comes to Buffalo airport around midnight, and I will drive from there to border using rental car. Couple of questions-
1. Does time of landing matters in anyway. I am concerned I will show up at border little after midnight for landing. Will that be a problem? Do they have specific hours within which you can land or should prefer to land?
2. Can I land using rental car? I plan on returning to US next day to wrap up work and then go back in couple of months.

Thanks

You won´t actually be landing in Toronto, which is about 1 1/2 hours from the Ontario/NY border. The border is open 24/7 and according to their website, the immigration and customs offices at Rainbow Bridge are open all night. You might want to verify, and verify the hours of the other available border crossings in Niagara.

You can land in a rental car, but be prepared for lots of questions. Have all your documents, B1 forms, car importation information (for later use), etc in order, and always be completely honest about your intentions. Have everything with you possible to back up the reason you are not planning to stay in Canada (Do you hold a mortgage and need to sell your house first? Do you need to finish a contract position? Are you completing school?).
