Subject: labour market -
i have very recently completed an electrician apprenticeship in scotland, uk and i am wondering what extra training i would need to do, if i was to move to canada, to be on par with others in the same field, would i need to train here first to gain experience, or am i eligible to ´search´ for a job in canada, ontario preferably, with an equal chance of being considered.

come to alberta and go to apprentice board office with all your documents and they will make you write a test. you can challenge the journeyman ticket directly or challenge all the 4 years of apprenticeship one after another. no extra training is required.

for more details go to www.tradesecrets.org (thats for alberta only).

David,

the licensing requirements apply accross the board in all Canadian provinces, Ontario, Alberta, or otherwise, however, as Arif noted, licensing equivalency is very possible.

You might want to consider the BUNAC program if you are under 30 yrs of age, for a 1 year open work permit to any province except Quebec.
