Subject: C# Jobs in Canada
Just thought I´d ask about applying for jobs in Canada.

I´m a C# .Net developer with ASP.NET and Winforms experience o f4 years, previously Visual C++ for 10 years. I´ve been involved with numerous financial institutions, like Bank of Scotland or Halifax plc in GB, but when I apply for jobs in Canada (which I´m adequately qualified for) I don´t get any responses. I´ve been told that Canada is on a recruitment drive for UK people to transfer over, is this not the case?

What´s the best way to get a foothold or some concrete work in Canada?

Try internally, ie, networking. Other than that no matter how qualifed you are, your application will be mixed with 1000 others coming everyday.

Also, do not use your UK address, use a Canadian address as if you are in Canada then you may see the real response, otherwise getting response with a foreign address will be very very slim.

I had this same problem when was looking for work in Australia, Finland and Germany. I applied from the uk had no responses then when I arrived I sent applications and got responses.

I am a c# developer also and I will be moving to Canada in November. I will wait until I arrive before I search for work.

Guess I´ll just have to try it out, there seems to be enough work over there although software dev is not on the fast track list! Thanks for the info.

All of you seem to have a decent job back there. Please think 1000x times before moving. This is a suggestion from a Canadian PR holder, which now is laying unwanted somewhere in my drawer.....

Why is that apron? You had a bad experience there?

Let´s say, it´s not worth it for middle class to immigrate to Canada. I´ve seen many fellow educated immigrants forced to accept survival jobs, not only temporarily, but for years and years. I was working at one famous fast food outlet - for $7.61 an hour - while waiting for a better job. It was useless - the system only looks for persons with Canadian experience - a discrimination that I thought it was only an urban legend among immigrants. It is not. I am lucky to have the courage and fund to return home. Many others are trapped there.... and have to live around the poverty line.

when people decide they want to escape their current situation - it is wise for them to do some research and not to assume that anything is easy and better than what they already have.

There are 2 sides to every bad situation

Not all immigrants are trying to escape from their situation, some only search for better life - like I did. However what I´d found was a worse one - contrary to what some sugar-coated stories tell, therefore I gladly decided to return.
