Subject: US citizen wanting to immigrate...have ?s
I am a US citizen wanting to relocate to Canada to be with my boyfriend who is a Canadian citizen. I am unsure which route to take to enter the country. We are talking about eventually getting married, and from some of the forums i´ve read, it sounds like that may be easiest/fastest. And if we would do that, would/could i enter as a visitor while we file for PR? And would it be better to get married in the US or Canada?
But i´ve also thought about the work permit? Is that a reasonable option? Would that take longer than the marriage route? But is that only temporary?
I´ve also thought about taking some classes? So if i apply for a study visa, could i come in that way and then eventually apply for PR?
Sorry for all the questions, but i´m pretty confused on all this and want to find the best option. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

wow, talk about a mixed bag of questions

Family Class would require you to be living common law for a year or be married before you could start any immgration process. You would have to prove that your relationship is not for the purpose of immigration.

Student Visa require a proof of fund to support yourself (they won´t like the idea of it being your boyfriend who would pay the bills) and acceptance at a university, and intentions to return home

Work Permit - you need an HRCD approved job offer.

which is best is very dependant on your skills, your educational interests, and how genuine your relationship might be.

thanks for the reply..i know i had just thrown a lot of topics in there!
As for our relationship, its definitely genuine. We´ve been together for 8 years. He was here in the states for a while going to school and working but has returned to Canada to work now and I would like to join him. We plan on getting married. We just weren´t sure if we should be looking for a way for me to start working right away like with the work permit. I just wasn´t sure about processing times on everything.
Once we do get married, and apply for my PR, i cannot work or study until approved, correct? Can i leave Canada during the processing time?

work permits are a totally different stream of approval.

how about getting married, and him sponsoring you while you are still in the US. that way you can visit each other, continue working and the process is reasonably quick (in relative terms)
