Well, PhD and master degrees have the same scores and this is not the matter 67 scores. This is about need based immigration or a simple immigration. The question is: Canada needs people who can fulfill their labor market requirement or just highly educated people to work in service industry. Remember service industry does not produce anything therefore, does not contribute much towards the growth of the country. Today, there are more employment assistance prograsm in Canada than the un-employed people. We have several govt. funded programs such as Caring Dad project, Afghan Women Projects, 2nd Career strategy (recently launched) then job connect, and all other kind of stupid program. Govt. is spending millions of dollars on these projects. LINC assesment is to check the english level of immigrants where billion of dollars are spent. Which is a repaeted process. Govt. should consult the business community and ask for their demands and introduce programs to meet the needs of employers. Employers are looking for people from US, France, Europe and Canada is getting immigrants from China, India and Pakistan.

Govt takes several years to assess their eligibility and when they enter the country employers do not like to hire them because thier skills do not match their requirements. People from these countries with general education are lost in this country and they have no choice but to work on minimum wage and beat the system by coming up with several strategies.

Sharon, you said people should choose between earning thier living or living with their parents. If you think people come to this country to earn money then you are wrong because there is no money in this country. People make more money in middle east than in Canada but they still come here because they want to make Canada their home. But statament proves that you consider them as a worker only. I am saying if you teat them like a worker just to support your economy then do not give them PR status give them work permist for 5-6 years like USA (H-1). In this case, you will see how many people will come to Canada. You will see 70% decline in immigration process. Because hardly make their living here. Then you said family reunification is for spouse and kids only....you are wrong.

You can read the statments of x-immigration minister and even on CIC website family reunification is about parents as well and thats is why there is a category to sponsor them. If you think these parents are burden on your system then take this category out of the system and then you will notice another drop in immigrants to this country. parents are important for every culture but mind they are more important for some cultures....in east, you do not see senior homes and Caring dad projects....people care about their parents and they want to keep the parents under their supervision...they do not dump them in senior homes to die in the hands of nurses.....

So this is all politics .....people are attarcted to come to Canada and they do not find jobs...people are told through the existence of these immigration categories that you can bring your parents later on but poor parents can not even get visit visa and if you sponsor them it takes years and years to complete the whole process....

And you want a person to send remittance to his home country to his parents when he is hardly making 9 dollars an hour and he is paying 1000 dollars in rent.....You want the same person to visit once a year to his home country to check on his parents as well....i wish this was that easy......

You are out of job for one day in canada you will be dumped in loans until neck and you want to provide all the luxaries to people who are hardly making thier living in Canada......

Need based immigration is required to cool of this furustration and bring the happiness into people´s lives.....occupational based immigartion is required...otherwsie simply stop bringing in the people to suffer poverty and depression.....

your ideas would do a lot to help reduce the 8 year backlog of applications.

if you believe what you say, why did you move from the US to Canada?

Mike, I can appreciate your perspective as both issues I mentioned are a push against your personal ambitions but that does not mean there are not other ways to consider the topic. There is a remittance office next to where I work that fills up daily with people sending money home to the Phillipines. Average workers, husbands supporting wives and children back home - it happens.

Nobody suggests Canada is right or easy for everyone.

I moved from USA to Canada because i want to make Canada my home and that is what i mentioned in my post. people want to come here not because of money. Canada is a beuatiful country and it is belived that 100s of cultures and religions are living peacefully in Canada. I could have struggled in USA and extend my H-1 and gradually applied for green card but i did not do it because i wanted to settle down and parents sponsorship in USA is not an organized process. Sometimes half of your life goes into wait just to sponsor your parents. I wanted to make this beautiful country my home and bring my parents to live with me so that i could give them company during the last days of their life. I lost my mother in one year after i moved to Canada and i am left with my dad only. i could not even see the face of my mother because i could not afford to go home and my family was unable to manage without me here. So there are situations where people are helpless. Even if govt. give temporary resident permits to parents with no health benefits and social assistance people would happily accept it. In regards to my dad situation, i only want a permission for his legal stay in the country with no social assistance and medical benefits. I can go for health insurance because it would still cost me leass than leaving my dad alone in my country of origin, rent a room for him, hire a helper for him and send him remittance which would be not less than 1000 a month because i have to arrange so many things. Now its been almost 2 years already that my dad is with me and he has no benefits, no medical etc. but i am able to support him. Because he lives with me, he eats what i eat, and he is a patient of high blood pressure which costs me 100 dollars a month interms of medicines for him and thast it. Now if i send him home, i have to rent a house, a helper and huge amount of money for his other expenses and he would still be suffering.

And to be honest with you i would not stay here if my dad does not get his PR status because in that case my choice would be to stay with my dad in a country where he would be allowed to stay with me.

Trust me govt. is getting nothing out of this immigration policy. People come here, get citizenship and move to USA or middle east. They come here to spend vacations and enjoy summer. I am asking what are we getting from this policy. We need to be realistic. we need more work permist than more immigrants. NEED BASED POLICY is required and simple immigration policy will ruin this country. And you are right if the govt. takes my advice the backlog will be cleaned out in no time and there will be no baclkog in future and we will get the right people. I had a Mexican guy working as a cleaner in my office building and he was a refugee claiment. Such a hard-working guys he was. he would do 3 jobs to manage his living on record on cheques. And he was deported yesterday. We need people who could fill these labor positions, now we can not hire a PhD to do the cleaning job. Even he/she is willing to work, he/she would become sick and furstrated in few days and eventually will become a burden on govt. in many terms. health, social assistance and who knows, he/she can committ crime as well because of his poor condition. So we need changes on large scale.

Yes, you are right, people do send money back homes because they have no other option but you have no idea that where that money is coming from. Most of the people with minmum wage get loans frm banks, withdraw money from credit cards, use their credit lines and manage their living and spend rest of their life in paying these loans back. If we are sincere to our country Canada we need to change our immigration policies.

One more important thing is that we can not produce patriotism if we can not accomodate these immigrants in a positive manner. So they treat the country as a temporary residence, get whatever they can and then just leave the country. There is no patriotism. How many join Canadian forces to fight in Iraq and Afghanistan? Nobody. why would they give their life for a country where they are mentally upset because of so many reason. We need to llok at bigger picture. If we want better citizens and make Canada a great country we need to review our immigration policy ASAP. All the best!

Mike,

What ever you said about the irony of the professional immigrtation are true.

However, some folks believe that Canada can offer unlimited opportunities for ever. So, if immigrants can´t find any suitable job then it is more to his/her personal fault. They don´t really try to realize the point where there are 5 jobs and 100 applicants there personal qualifications really do not matter. It is not the question of easy or hard or who to blame.

You said something that the Canadians should seriously ponder. I curiously look at the reactions of the Canadians about this problem. To me, it appears that most of them try to deny or at best ignore it. Apparently as this matter now not affecting them directly they are indifferent. Makes some sense though, if I would continue a 70/80K job in Canada then why would I care to listen the hardship of the immigrants?

This attitude will be self destructing in the long term. A frustrated landmass can never be asset of a country, they rather become liability and after some point involve in anti social activities out of frustration. Immigration cheating..tax evasion are just few to mention. The way the condition of the immigrants getting bad and worse I see lot of instability in Canada in the future.

"we can not produce patriotism if we can not accomodate these immigrants in a positive manner. So they treat the country as a temporary residence, get whatever they can and then just leave the country. There is no patriotism." - This is absolutely true, and I observed this trend in Canada.

When we talk about burden on govt. The first thing we mention is health care. Although the health care is no better than third world countries in Canada but still we pretend that we are giving free health care to our citizens. Yes we do get some modern & developed traetment when we are close to death or we have cancer or any other disease. But health care in general is trash in Canada.
Let me tell you, why? Because we happily give immigrant visas to doctors but we dont want them to practice here. And if somehow someone is able to pass those difficult tests and spend all the years studying again for a 2nd medical degree then there is politics at doctors level. They don´t welcome new doctors, they don´t allow them to open clinics. And i know several doctors, very highly qualified doctors from India and Pakistan (let me clarify that indian and pakistani doctors are one of the best in the world) and they are working in call centres because those poor doctors cant practice here. If you go US hospitals, i bet every 2nd doctor would either indian or pakistani. Because there you have to pass the tests only and do not have to fight politics.

I am asking when was the latest revision of health policies, why are stuck with present system when you know that system is unable to hold the load. Why dont you review and bring some positive changes. Why all walk-in clinics are like fish markets and why one can not get a family doctor a pediatrician?

The system needs a complete overhaul. Dont blame immigrants or their parents. Canadian immigration is advertised in such a beautiful way that people leave every thing and come here and both parties fail to get benefits from each other. Govt. find them as burden on economy instead of a help and immigrant find it a place where they can not grow and lose their abilities and get mentally sick. So what are we upto? If you want more people only then come up with policies where these people are sent to places like nunavut, manitoba, and other provinces where there is a need of people of all kinds.

Anyways, i am tired of writing this as there is no benefit of this because politicians would not like this. They would like to get votes and show to people that they are spending money on people by allocating billions of dolloars of taxpayer money in useless programs. Good Luck Canada!

i am enjoying reading these posts here. some are tired maybe for nothing in return. but whatever sides you guys are posting here, they give me clearer pictures of things taken as blurred, while presented crystal clear on cic website. facts are laid down. unspoken truths are read here.

human has no contentment. and no one can give a full contentment to someone, save his ownself.

nothing is really free anywhere. and evil is everywhere too. no matter how we make system and policies firm and free from fraud and fake system....evil intentions are so determined in somebody who desires something.

its hard to be so wise in this life. i guess that even if i make my own people according to my good natures; as long as there is free will...people may choose good or evil in immigrating to somewhere.

its really difficult to judge a real and fake applications if the real ones have poor evidences, and fake ones have subtle ideas.

Well, i am not complaining, i am giving you the facts. Some people belive in closing their eyes and hide the facts. I am not one of those. I speak the truth and i want people to speak the truth stop pretending what they are not? Simple is that!

your facts are very self serving. You have a personal agenda and anything that does not fit in to that plan is negative.

Genuine critical thinking requires all sides of an issue to be considered. Simple as that.

sorry to say but everybody has his/her personal agenda on this forum and because of these personal agendas people come and start a debate. Based on these personal agendas of people policies are devloped. Policies are not devloped on the agenda of aliens. Policies are devloped and reviewed based on the existing problems and these existing problems could be the agenda of anybody, you , me and anybody else. And i am not alone in this boat. This is the agenda of almost every immigrant in this country. I am only addressing it bluntly and this makes you feel that this is only my personal agenda.

One should always apprecaite the facts and sometimes agree with others as well on right things. Your personal agenda is always going aganist no matter the arguments make sense to you or not, you would always be against people ideas and sensible comments. So i beleive you need to review your agenda, seriously! Thanks
