Subject: Is there any other valid proofs for common law?
  Hi,

Just would like to know regarding valid proofs for common law sponsorship, On the Statutory Declaration of Common-Law Union Form[IMM 5409], their is a section for proof to show we have things in common, what are the proof that i can show. We do not have the same bank account, the apartment is on my boyfriends name, in short, we have our different name on all things we do. Its either my name or his name and not the too name togerther. Please what do you think i can do on this, is there any other valid proofs we can show ?

Thanks!

The first thing you can do is change your thinking. Think what you can show!

If your a couple start joining things like life Insurance which is easy and inexpensive to obtain. Any Bank in Canada or in most countries allows a very small deduction monthly for accidental death insurance. Get the other person on the lease and do not say it can not be done.

Well you must be getting snail mail at your residence which is old and would time the relationship by showing the dates delivered on the envelope.

Get points cards and get them at the same residence so when someone says air miles you can keep me waiting in line while you try to find the points card.

You must have friends who can write a letter to attest to the fact that you are a loving genuine couple and that costs nothing.

Get to work and start focusing on positive aspects of your relationship which are common sense.

Is it sufficient proof for common law sponsorship? (in reply to: Is there any other valid proofs for common law?)
Hi Roy

Thanks for the reply. Its a very helpful insight.

We´re both staying in Dubai,UAE and since its a muslim country it is a law that only married couples should cohabit together. I am still living with my partner though and its just so hard to present other proofs that we cohabit since the local law itself doesn´t allow us the right to do so. The fully furnished flat is under our company´s account(we´re same company) with an inclusion of utility bills, so not really much proof on that as well. But we do have trips together and receipts as proof of travel; plus our union is not kept secret among the people we know, certainly they could attest to that. Was just wondering if that´s valid and enough?!

Okay you confused me.

Spousal/common law/conjugal sponsorship for some reason does not seem logical unless your "partner" is a Canadian.

If you or your partner is applying for PR and wishes to list you as their partner is another issue. This UAE issue threw me a curve.

Something makes me think this is a same sex couple - who cares - do not flip out.

Since you travel get a joint bank account in another country if you two are a same sex couple.

So lots of trips together with lots of photos with the two of you laughing seeing unusual things that would show a bond between the two of you. Good starting point.

Commnn law partner sponsored (in reply to: Is there any other valid proofs for common law?)
Hi Roy,
Sorry if I have misled you into that thought! lol
My boyfriend is of Canadian citizen and I am a Filipina. At the moment the proofs we could provide are statements from family, friends, cards, pictures of them and us, travels together and emails.(worried that aint much of a hard evidence eh)
I hope the Canadian government would see the challenge we face on why we cannot provide other proofs.
Thanks for the relentless reply.. great help!

Just to clarify one simple aspect of conjugal living while not married: explicit sex pictures do not condone nor prove there is any intimate relationship or conjugal living! I know one girl who thought if they provided CIC with sex pics, it might help their case, as far as conjugal living goes.

I sponsored my boyfriend through the family class sponsorship... We are common law partners and have been for two years now. First thing we did when we moved in together was change the water bill to my name and add my name on to any other bill that would let me. Added my name to the council tax bill and rent and got a joint banking account. We sent any letters that came to me ad our address and provided wage slips. Anything that comes to you at the address you two share is proof!

Good luck

Hi Tonia
Thanks for the input.
I wished we could do that here, but things here are a little bit complicated. As we are both working in the same company, our accommodation is in company´s account with an inclusion of utility bills (whole package)therefore the address is not in either our names. No taxes to be paid as well. We´re working on having a joint bank account, I just hope its enough to convice cic
