Subject: immigration from Dubai
Hi, I am new to this fourm and was going through the previous posts and found them very informative, specially those given by Sharon.

can somebody help clarify my following queries?

My husband works in dubai has applied for canadian immigration through London CHC on June 2008. How long will the entire process take? what is AOR (is it refering to the process of receving the file number)? Can someone describe the timeline for each process?

Currently I and my 2 children (5 & 3 yrs) are in India and we are planning to join my husband in dubai in April 2009. what are the things to be taken care of, as far as the immigration is concerned, before moving to Dubai?

Is the PCC only for my husband or for the whole family. Where will my PCC be held (if i have one)-india or dubai.

can settlement funds be in different forms like land, Fixed Deposit, savings account or is it a must that it should ONLY be shown as savings accounts. can these settlement funds be in india or in dubai?

your help and guidance is greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Debs

Hi Debs and welcome to this forum...

Since you have been reading recent post... you probably know that people like Sharon are advising new applicants to hold sending off their applications until there is a more clear picture on how CIC is going to assess them... this is expected to happen sometime in August... but no one really knows for sure... since your husband already sent his application... it will sit there until CIC knows what to do with it...

About how long it will take to process the application... oh well, that is another unknown, because according to what I´ve been reading, CIC will give priority to those applicants with skill which are in high demand in Canada... we don´t know if your husband´s skills are on the list... if he has one of those desired skills, then his application might be processed withing a year (that´s what CIC is hoping to do anyways), if not... he might get a letter saying his skills are not needed at the moment and he will get his money back and invited to apply at a later date...

AOR means Acknowledgement Of Receipt... this is a letter you will get from CIC acknowledging the fact that they have received your application... this letter will provide you with your file number... you will use this number to access information thru the CIC website or to communicate with CIC regarding your case...

Before you leave India... you should try to collect as many documents as possible... check CIC official website for the required documents needed in your case:

www.cic.gc.ca

You will need things like: birth cetificates, marriage licenses, degrees, employment reference letters, etc... all these documents must be in English or French and some of them may need to be attested especially education related documents...

I am not sure about the settlement funds... but you will be able to find a lot of information on this topic with a little search... I always read that you must have easy access to the money... therefore it should be in a bank account or retiremet fund... but I also know of a close friend of mine (from India) who gave CIC a letter from her bank back in India stating the value of her gold... and this must have worked because she was issued her visas few weeks ago...

I hope this information is useful to you... please wait on other comments as they might give you a better look at things than mine...

Good Luck from Abu Dhabi...

thanks anonymous (in reply to: immigration from Dubai)
hey anonymous, thanks a lot for the reply and the information. as far as my husbands qualification goes, he is a double postgraduate (MA and MBA-HR) and is currently working in the HR domain (in a senior level).

he has more than 1 year of post MBA experience in HR and prior to that he has around 2.5 years of administration experience.

as far as my certificates are concerned, i have them all with me. I am a graduate in English Literature and I am an english lecturer for the past 6 years. should my certificate be attested (if so by whome)?

Hey anonymous, i did not understand the first paragraph in your reply. does this mean that there is going to be change in how candidates are going to be assessed?

in ur next reply, please do give ur name also. ur informations are valuable.

yes, new assessment criteria.

I would urge you to consider some Canadian job hunting or investigate a Provincial Nominee program. Both tracks are moving forward inspite of the rule changes.

Both programs also move your application to the front of the line.

Hi, sorry... I forgot to fill in the name... Lily... that´s my name...

Yes, it doesn´t hurt to get all your education certificates attested... by who? well, I am not sure how it goes in India... but I think you need to go to your Ministry of Education and get some sort of attestation for the institution and legal status of the university you and your husband got your degrees from... then you go to your ministry of exterior to also attest that your documents are legit and not bought or fake... I could ask my friends here how the attestation process for India goes... I am not so sure... I am not from there...

And keep reading previous threads... Roy and Sharon are very active in bringing ´fresh´ information regarding the new rules and they have both posted very useful information recently... you can also go to the CIC website and read about it as well... if anything new regarding this issue comes up... I am sure Roy and Sharon will let us know and they will publish it on the CIC website...

I am just another SW applicant waiting for an answer... and have found great confort and source of information in this forum... many nice people here ready to advice you...

I wish you the best...

Lily from Abu Dhabi!
