Subject: Bring my wife to canda.
Just recently i got engaged in Canada to an Indian girl who lived here for 4 or 5 years, and she went back home to study. She isn´t a canadian citizen or permanent resident, so she´s not able to come back to Canada whenever she feels. I will be travelling to India before the year end to get married, and very soon after the marriage I would like her to come back with me, or come back a few months later on her own. I want to know who I can contact for this procedure. Are their visa´s required in this situation? Is this a means of sponsoring? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

What is your status in Canada? Canadian citizen or resident?

If your future wife is not a reident or citizen, you have to sponsor her, only if you are a citizen or a permanent resident.

She could even come to Canada on a visiter´s visa while the process is goin on. Refer to www.cic.gc.ca

I´m Canadian citizen & resident. My future wife is neither a citizen or resident. Does this mean i have to sponsor her?
I was hoping to go to India in the late months of the year, and do whatever i have to do; get married, sign all marriage documents, etc... & bring in her back with me by January, or have her follow shortly...is this possible?

You mentioned "If your future wife is not a reident or citizen, you have to sponsor her, only if you ARE a citizen or permanent resident."......as opposed to what. If i wasnt a a citizen or permanent resident then i wouldnt have to sponsor? ......I thought if i go there and get married, why would she not be able to come back with me easier. I am a Canadian citizen and resident, what is the need for sponsoring?

Simple steps:

If you want to bring your wife to live in Canada there is a procedure you have to go through.

1- YOU have to apply as sponsor and once YOU are approved to sponsor your wife can apply for a Permanent Resident status.

2- Once your wife is approved as a Permanent Resident she will received an immigrant visa in her passport which allows her to immigrate to Canada. Then she can work, study, whatever, leave and re-enter Canada as many times as she wishes and most important she can come and live with you.

All of this information reads "spouse, spouse, spouse"...i mentioned that we got engaged, we are not married yet. Will i have to travel to India first to get married before I start this sponsorship procedure?

yes. Your sponsorship application will take about 60 days and once it is approved the entire file will be moved to India where your wife will be processed. You must be married or living common law for 1 year to qualify.

Wait time once the file is in India is about 4-6 months.
