  Hi

Thanks for your answer and comments. That was very useful. I feel that this happens to many new immigrants and they should be warned about this.

As far as I am concerned, if an offer is given to me I won´t settle for less than I want to be paid or else I will decline it. I am sure that is the best thing to do. This guy, as Roy said, was also an immigrant and he is using the newer immigrant, it is almost funny.

DC is right too. He had a clear view of the situation and tries to take advantage of it. That is so bad!

So some people are working for free in Toronto ?? I didn´t know that, maybe it is best for new immigrants to land in a not so popular place, more like a small town then they will pay well.

Even here in Calgary they are "hungry" for people. My husband gets paid the same amount as Canadians and he gets benefits too. With no Canadian experience he got by easily, they just need people here. Maybe I will go for a temporary job like that too until I find something good .. :)

More soon

CBV,

Just a friendly warning, I wouldn´t ever work under any employer who can bargain for an hour about salary. That is highly unprofessional and reminds me a typical Asian village side fish market where we used to buy the fish at one third the initial asking price. Negotiation may give you good result, but at the end you have to work for him.

Yes, In Toronto many guys try to get some experience by voluntary service. One day I was at my supervisor´s room when a guys called; he was literally begging. My supervisor was a nice guys, he told me the story and gave a only sad smile as because of insurance problem that office can´t hire any volunteer.

Hi DC

I think you are right. The worst thing in this is that this guy is "desperate" for someone like me, indirectly he told me this. So he should pay well by default.

Do you think that even if I get a good salary I should not work for him ? I guess you are right. Something was not quite right with him.

Well I will tell this forum about what happens next. I haven´t got the job offer yet, maybe they won´t give me one.

The fish market comparison is quite good. I like it. I will look into other markets when fish are fresh, tasty and worth it :)

Frankly I wouldn´t work for him even he comes closer to my expectation. As, in that case his expectation about me will be very high also. Keep in mind that laying somebody of is very easy for silly or no reason.

In professional world salary negotiation is very common, however that has a decent way and limit.

I wish I knew the company. I would call and give him a piece of my mind.

I agree with you, well so far no offer has come. He said by the end of next week. But for me it is almost over. I wouldn´t like to work for someone like him. More I think about it more I agree with your statement

Sharon

You are funny! I knew you would say that, I can´t give you the name of the company ... I would feel bad doing so. But thanks for supporting me!!

I learnt by talking with him that most of the companies that would be interested in my skills are in Vancouver due to the nature of the job so I will look into this area and next time, we should meet !!! :)
