Exactly. The process seems so ridiculous, but just can´t stay away. But I find Canadian politics just as interesting in Parliament Question Period, which is sorely lacking down here.

Great article. Is this a regular column in the Tribune?

Can you imagine any of our "leaders" surviving Question Period?! Canadian politics remains a mystery to me but certainly seems more sane in general (except for the part about not voting directly for the PM--that will take some getting used to).

Richard being raised just north of Barrie makes it very logical that I can´t comprehend the length of time waisted in the US election process.

actually, not voting for PM means you are more inclinded to carefully choose your local representation. Each party has a convention and elects amongst itself who is leader under any or all circumstances. So that part is a compressed 16 months of primaries!

Which ever party elects the most representatives, automatically gets the pre-determined leader. Some would suggest it is a tandem vote.

Each leader represents a constituency and must win in that local environment. It has been known to happen that they lose and someone has to give up their win so the leader can actually sit in parliament.

I have just finished watching Hillary give her exit speech. Well done. If she means what she said and does what she promises... I am optimistic that the ugliness is behind them.

Hey Camilla, Ooops , Sharon,

If you are confidence enough within yourself, you would make such comment, but you are lacking the confidence you need to make appropriate comments, so get real or get off this forum

OOOOps... Sharon is being bewitched now! Ninochka watch out. Both Sharon and Roy are parasites. Can´t write English diddly squat... Read above and see how many errors they make! They need easy cash from the prospective clients. Now that you seem to make sense of their idiocy, they will lash out at you.

Unfortunately, it´s not a regular column in the Trib, wannabe. Am also learning how Canadian politics works.

Good point Sharon on strength of ensuring good local representatives. Although watching British politics leads me to slightly negative opinion on not having direct PM voting. I don´t think Tony Blair would have remained as PM last round if it were direct. Extremely unpopular war there, but there he was, still supporting it for a few more years.

Also agree Hillary did give a good concession and endorsement speech. I noted a few boos from the crowd when Obama´s name was mentioned. That means there´s still work ahead to heal the division.

Tony may have been unpopular but he only had 1 vote just like everyone else. Yes, he dictates policy but if he goes entirely off the deep end, there is the ability to replace him mid term if necessary. They simply call a party convention. That is what is happening to Dion. He has been elected leader by the party itself. If he can´t perform, they will simply replace him (there will likely be some blood on the floor and hidden daggers but it still can be done).
