| Subject: Driver license - can US driver license |
I have US license. Recently landed in Canada. Can I keep US license and apply new driver license in Alberta?
I do work in US as and when required, client has locations in US and Canada. So want to keep US license if possible.

as I understand you cannot hold 2 driver licenses at the same time. to get and canadian license and be exempt from writing the driving exam you would have to EXCHANGE your US license for the canadian one. Also, if you are a resident of canada now you would have to have your licenses swiped within 3 months. I hope that answers your question.

Correct.
Have to EXCHANGE the US license for the Canadian one.
Though on the other side, US allows you to keep the Canadian license as well with the US one.

If you did not import a vehicle, just hide your US license and go through the moves to get a Alberta license. But never have both on you when you are out on town... Get caught, you will be doing time and possible deportation for fraud. When you go to the US, leave your Can licence securely in Canada and go with your US license.

Not a god idea to try to have both. Canadian and U.S. agencies now share much information related to security. Driver´s licence is one of them. Not worth violating the laws of both countries after spending so much time, money, and effort getting legal permanent residence that could easily be lost over this.
