your story is a bit of a disaster area.

I don´t think indebtedness to Revenue Canada will prohibit sponsorship. however, is your debt enough to put you into bankruptcy? THAT would be a problem.

57000 (in reply to: Revenue canada & CIC)
5000 is not a lump of money but that not what she owes. she owes $57000. She was audited

cant understand how the heck she owed that much, but someone did her taxes wrong over the years and they asked her for documents she did not no where some was. so

you dont think 57000 is a lot of money then I dont know what is a single mom an 14 year old kid

Gee that IS a lot of money. I wonder if she can negotiate penalty and interest reduction by pleading poverty and such. I know CRA is more brutal and unforgiving than the US IRS but I wonder if there is any room for such negotiations.

it takes a long time to rack up $57,000 in unpaid taxes and it is hard to fathom that your friend was unaware of the risk. Obviously, it has backfired in a big way.

Hopefully it does not result in a bankruptcy

yea (in reply to: Revenue canada & CIC)
it does take a long time to rock up that much. se had someone doing her taxes, that person was fine and I heard is in jail however everyone that she did taxed for was audited. My friends mom cant find some of her reciepts so that contributed to teh high ammount as well

U just have to be very carefull where you do ur taxes some private people are crooks who ask and make up fake reciepts to fool the govenment when u get caught u pay both penalty and interest

like I said, it takes about $150,000 in unclaimed income to rack up a $57,000 tax bill. The lost receipt story is the oldest line in the book.

sorry - it is far to easy to blame everyone else and I find it next to impossible to believe that the mother of your friend was not aware that she was playing with fraud.

Hi

yea your right, but it does not only take unclaimed income to rock up that much in on claimed taxes.

this is taxes over the year not onclamed income. she might have gotten money back when she was not suppose, or get back instead of paying back, fraudulent claims.

and a ray of others. This is not a blame gaim, people just have to be reponsible for there actions.

They did ask her for all her reciepts, prove and other documents some she did not have so she sent what she had and they arived at that amount.

why do people jump to conclutions and dont know anything

nobody is jumping to conclusions. All I am suggesting is consequences suck sometimes and regardless of all the excuses and the blaming you may wish to attempt - 1) we are obligated to retain receipts for 7 years, 2) we are obligated to file accurate income tax returns and 3) when we don´t, CCRA can and will require the unpaid taxes to be paid. 4) ignorance of the rules rarely works as an excuse.

Your original question - will it impact her ability to sponsor, if she avoids bankruptcy - yes.
