Subject: Are SW Points changing?
Hello everyone!

Is it true that the amount of points needed to qualify as a SW might be changing?

If true, how will this change affect those waiting for an answer?

What would the changes be?

Thanks for your replies!

I am hearing and reading nothing about point changes at this juncture. What the big discussion is about is some pending changes to the immigration act that will affect applicants after February 2008.

The devil is in the details of the new rules and we still do not have clarity from the government how exactly it is intended to work. This is what the non experts around here are thinking -

Canada is not getting the skills we need and the current system insists applications are processed in the order they are submitted. That means that if you are applying as a bricklayer in London in 2007, CIC must process all applications that are older before it can get that brick layer into Canada - even though that is the skill we are desperately needing.

So, there is some speculation that applications after 2008 will be processed by Canadian skill requirements rather than date of submission. There is even some discussion that applications will not be held for years and years leaving people in limbo. (personally, I support this idea as far more respectful)

Rumour has it that pre 2008 applications will be used to top up annual quotas until the backlog is exhausted. no doubt they will hope that some will withdraw their applications.

Right now, all applications must be processed even if the applicant has changed their mind, died, gone elsewhere etc. Very time consuming and very costly.

The verdict is out on how this will all work. Roy and I are at odds whether this is good or bad legislation. All I care is that people not have to wait 5-8 years to learn their future and that prospective Canadians get the right employment opportunities when they arrive. I would rather say no to someone than give then less that what they deserve.

Ms. Finlay will be blasted in the papers on Monday and Mike will post it here.

It is all about the Regulatory Impact Analysis statement she keeps referring to. Like all of her legislation has been with consultations with various Law Societies and CSIC.

When one consults or claims to consult with others before changing legislation why would most quality representatives be opposed to the changes.

How can someone claim they have consulted when the advice given is totally opposite of the proposed legislation?

Even while I was out driving and getting lost even with a navigator I´m getting calls about the Minister of Immigration and her regulatory impact analysis statement.

This will be just like the one that created CSIC or regulation of Consultants. Totally flawed.

Lily there is real concern to be afraid and to stick to any and all media reports.

Unfortunately the Conservatives have become a party of we do it our way no matter what. Currently the political situation in Canada is desperate. The conservatives have cut funding for Canadian films that the Conservatives do not find appropriate. The Conservatives have said who cares about the Charter. The Conservatives are.............

The problem is that the opposition have not found a topic that they want to take to the electorate to force an election and the conservatives know it so they do what they want.

Can´t wait for an election.
